Our guidebook will give you many ideas for activities, restaurants and breweries and we have some favorite hikes below. Search them on Google for directions.
Wildcat Rock Trail: Thanks to the hard work of Conserving Carolina and their ace trailblazer Peter Barr, there's a spectacular hike to explore in the Upper Hickory Nut Gorge area. The 3-mile Wildcat Rock Trail climbs about 1,800 feet in elevation, taking you to a 100-foot waterfall, rock climbing area, towering cliffs, and a panoramic lookout point from Wildcat Rock (photo above). It ends in a highland grassland atop Little Bearwallow Mountain, elevation of 3,900
Deep Gap Trail at Mount Mitchell: Hike from the highest peak east of the Mississippi River (Mount Mitchell, 6684 feet) to the second highest one (Mount Craig, 6647 feet). On the ridge line of these giants of the Black Mountains, you might find yourself above the clouds.
Craggy Pinnacle: A short, easy-to-access hike through a rhododendron thicket brings you to the pinnacle and 360˚views, glorious sunsets or morning mist on the mountains. This close-to-Asheville hike includes a sampler of mountain scenery: long-range views, twisted laurel and dramatic rock formations.
For waterfall viewings and hikes you can Google Dupont State Park, Sliding Rock, Catawba Falls, and Graveyard Fields to name a few.
