Maintenance--Your host, Doug, was raised on a farm in Oregon, where he learned carpentry, truck, tractor, equipment, and irrigation repair. He built many sections of his own home and shop, builds furniture and cabinets in his woodshop, and helps friends repair their homes. This expertise has proven valuable so that the home at Four Fields Farm is in perfect working condition, with a focus on both preventative and regular maintenance.
Environment--Four Fields Farm is a fully certified Virginia Green Tourism Partner. This certification highlights our sustainable practices. We promote recycling, use of Safer Choice cleaning products, provide composting for kitchen waste, purchase Water Sense products, foster native plant species, and provide over 15 acres for wildlife habitat. This year, we plan to install solar panels and an electric vehicle charger.
Firepit and Outdoor Options--We provide seasoned oak firewood and six Adirondack chairs for relaxing around the firepit, with easy access from the main and lower level porches.
The Neighborhood--Scenic, peaceful, with amazing dark skies. Shenandoah National Park's border is acres away, offering great hikes to graceful waterfalls or challenging peaks, with plenty of bird and wildlife watching all around. Seek further adventures nearby: Skyline Drive, Monticello, Three Blacksmiths. Inn at Little Washington, Luray Caverns, adorable downtown Culpeper, the Sperryville Marketplace, and so much more!
Hiking and Exploring--If you want to hike, there is a variety of information in the bookcase in the foyer, including USGS topo maps, books, and every trail map published by the Shenandoah National Park in a three-ring binder. We also provide short descriptions on many of the local hiking trails, restaurants, wineries, and breweries.
Proprietor--Doug is a friendly, conscientious, and devoted host. He and his wife Kim purchased Four Fields Farm on St Patrick’s Day in 2020. He brings passion, hard work, and professionalism to this role. With Doug living a mile away and being able to focus on the business full-time, Four Fields Farm is managed professionally and maintained with pride. This is not a part-time or side gig, or a remote job, it is Doug’s full-time job. He is available to answer any questions or immediately address any issues.
After each guest departs and before the next guest, Doug conducts a careful inspection of the home to ensure it is perfect for the next guest.
Doug and his wife are respected and appreciated in the community. They go to extra lengths to support local businesses, including farm markets, restaurants, wineries, breweries, artists, and regularly sample the local food and drink scene. Doug was a great host, and readily available if needed. the house was fantastic and very spacious and comfortable in an envious setting of the Virginia mountains. Small towns nearby were charming, especially Washington, and the small country roads surrounding the property drove through beautiful landscapes of farms and rolling hills.
great house, well appointed and fully stocked with every cooking needs. Terrific fenced in yard. Great area hiking and extremely knowledgeable and helpful owner.
We had an amazing stay at this cabin in Etlan! Doug was an outstanding host, making us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. The cabin was well-equipped with everything we could possibly need and had such a warm, cozy, and inviting vibe. Highly recommend this place for a perfect getaway!
We booked the property for my wife and I and Family for a recent wedding in Culpeper. The property was exactly as described and was immaculate. The instructions and the website for the property were very helpful. We would stay here again no issues at all.
Doug is so great to work with and our stay was wonderful once again. Slow and relaxing days - hikes with the pups in the morning and cooking in the perfect kitchen every evening. It’s just perfect!
We wanted a short getaway for part of spring break and Four Fields did not disappoint! The house was clean, well appointed and a great layout for our family. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. Great location for hiking and skyline drive. We will definitely return.
My husband and three grown children loved our stay at Four Fields! The view was amazing. The house was stocked with everthing you could need and it was spotless. The view was gorgeous and oh so peaceful!
The property was a great way to spend a couple days away in a relaxing and home like setting. We traveled with our family, friends, and dogs. It was an ideal way for us to spend a weekend. We were able to do a little hiking and have a great place to go back to and relax and enjoy each others company. We look forward to doing it again.
Lovely property -- clean, spacious and well-maintained. The views are awesome, and Doug is a wonderful host. There are many opportunities to do short or long hikes within 15 minutes of the property. I highly recommend it!
The home was beautiful, spotless and extremely well equipped. The house, property and location were as described and made it difficult to leave. We plan on coming back.
Another wonderful weekend at Four Fields! We loved the Hazel River hike. The house is so wonderful. Love the fenced in yard for the pup, the views, the porch, the summer grilling — all close to breweries and wineries! Everything was fantastic and we can’t wait to return soon!
We could not have been more pleased with the rental. Lots of space and beautiful views of the mountains. We had 3 little ones and 4 adults. Perfect house for our needs!
The pictures in the listing are beautiful, but the being there is even better. The place is well-furnished, clean, and perfect for a relaxing getaway.
We loved sitting on the deck and enjoying the fantastic views. Our host, Doug, communicated well with us and we had everything we needed. Would definitely come back the next time we're in the area.
WOW! Beautiful home. Perfect location. Quiet. Great hiking. Had a great time with family and friends. Everything was stocked, convenient… just can’t say enough. Felt very welcome and could not want for anything more.
The home was exactly as it is on the video. Very clean very well kept very well stocked. It had everything you need for cooking grilling, etc. the views were beautiful and what a great neighborhood. Great to walk your dog or just go hiking. We really enjoyed our stay And would definitely recommend how it is completely roomy and plenty of places to hang out. Unfortunately, it rained almost the whole time we were there so we never really got to enjoy the fire pit, but all in all it was a great stay.
We had the most amazing week in this home! The location is perfect for exploring the area also for escape from the rat race of daily life! We have stayed in many VRBO’s before and this was hands down the most clean, well stocked home we’ve ever stayed in! You can definitely tell that the owner cares for his home as well as wants everyone to have the best experience renting! Highly recommend!
We rented this house for a hiking vacation. It was a beautiful house just minutes from Old Rag and other hiking trails in the Shenandoahs. The National Park entrance was about a 20 minute drive. Nice deck overlooking farmlands and hills. Well appointed rooms, well-equipped kitchen. The host was really nice and helpful. Hope to be back there soon.
Our group of 4 adults had a fantastic stay at Four Fields. The home is warm, inviting, comfortable, clean and spacious. The windows provide a gorgeous view from anywhere in the house. Doug is an exceptional host and gave us great suggestions for hikes, food and activities in the area. There are several wonderful hikes within 10 minutes of the house, but you are also close to SNP with even more fabulous hikes and scenery. This was definitely one of our top 5 stays ever!
We had a fabulous stay at four fields. We attended wedding events at Early Mountain and this was a perfect property for our family. The house has everything you need will stocked, since it is a drive for last minute items. The views were wonderful and we were able to spot a few deer. thank you for opening your home to us.
We spent the last week at Four Fields Farm. To say it was a beautiful location is an understatement! I can only imagine when the scenario is in full bloom how amazing it is. To add to that, the home is great, spacious, comfortable has everything you could possibly need and the hosts are the best! We worked while we stayed with 2 pets. Even had a small baby shower (with permission) that was a huge hit with the location and the house. I couldn’t recommend this place and the hosts enough! This is a must stay location! Adding photos to our google review if you want to see more!
The home was as advertised and very clean, especially for a pet-friendly house. It is set in a beautiful valley with gorgeous views of the mountains in the daytime and loads of stars at night. We found it comfortable and well-appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed to do Thanksgiving dinner, and we enjoyed having everything we needed to enjoy the fire pit and outdoor space, especially the fenced in yard, which was a bonus for our dog. The owner was very responsive, and we would stay here again.
