Top room with sloping roof and low beams was very comfortable, if you know how to avoid walking into them. Great bed, spotlessly clean. Worth knowing dinner service on sunday finishes at 6pm.

Enjoyed it
I had a lovely stay, the room was cosy and comfortable, and all staff I spoke to was very nice, down to earth, helpful and accomodating. Breakfast was really well cooked and tasty. The only feedback I have is that it was quite dusty on the floor between the bed and wall, and on the top of the headboard. The electric shower was as electric showers are; functional but not super efficient. I'll stress though that I did really enjoy my stay and would definitely stay again.

Journey break
We stopped here on our way to and from a funeral.We were greeted warmly by the customers and by Claire,who apparently running The Avenue on a temporary basis.She looked after us from the moment we arrived to the moment we left.The food was excellent and good value for money.The rooms were clean and comfortable,though possibly need a bit of updating.We would stay again as it was one of. the friendliest pubs we have ever stayed in.Thanks to the clientele and especially Claire,ten out of ten.

Staff were friendly and welcoming - breakfast needed a few more options than just cooked and the muffin wasn't great. Having said that everything else was good and comfortable so no real complaints.

We had an overnight stay in this lovely pub/inn. The room was very quirky with sloping ceilings and beams. Delicious breakfast.

Warm welcome from very friendly staff. Lots of outdoor seating. Bedroom small but very comfortable, especially the bed. Very warm due to heatwave, but staff lent me a very effective fan. Near to Durham and you can catch a bus right outside.

Fantastic place.....dont hesitate !
My mum and best friend stayed at The Avenue, nice size room, very clean, tidy and well presented. Fantastic breakfast the next morning. They couldnt do enough for them. Even made them both a cup of tea whilst they say outside in the lovely area out the back. Will and have recommened The Avenue to friends. They are also organising events in the evening that myself and friends would like to go to....i live locally. Looking forward to visiting !! And i would like to say a big thankyou for looking after my mum !!

This was a last minute booking due to a family emergency, we found the accommodation adequate for our needs and the price paid. Clean and fairly comfortable, the highlight was the excellent cooked breakfast.

Great base for Durham visit
We needed a base for visiting Durham and the Avenue was perfect! The food was excellent (evening meal & breakfast), the staff were very friendly and helpful and the accommodation really clean. Would recommend to anyone and will definitely be staying here again.

Very friendly reception
Very friendly staff. The bedroom was spacious and clean with a lovely bathroom. You can hear noise from the bar but that’s to be expected in an inn. Excellent breakfast selection - can highly recommend the pancakes!

The food is first class and cannot be faulted. We were pleasantly surprised at how quiet it was in the rooms, even though the pub itself was extremely busy. The staff were extremely helpful and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to others.

Great place but expensive for single occupancy.
Excellent accommodation and very friendly and accommodating staff. Food was very good at reasonable prices. Very expensive re B & B for single occupant is the only downside that will mean that I will have second thoughts about staying there again which is disappointing for me.

Lovely country Inn
My second stay at this lovely country inn. Clean, comfortable room. Excellent Staff. Fantastic bar and restaurant with great choice of food at resonable prices. Friendly locals use this place a lot, which is a good recommendation. Easy bus ride into centre of Durham. Highly recommended.

Charming hotel
Really nice hotel with very friendly staff. Clean, comfortable room. Free street parking and some hotel spaces. Good food at reasonable prices with lots of choice - from bar snacks to fillet steaks. Good selection of real ale. Friendly locals use the bar restaurant. Fresh breakfast was cooked to order. Two miles from Durham centre with frequent bus service or there is a pleasant foot path which takes you directly into centre.
