After staying in VRBOs around NZ, this was definitely our favorite for charm, view and character. However? We arrived cold and et and the heat was not on. It took a few hits to warm up the hallway. There were lots of blankets so we could sit on the couch and stay warm. My one suggestion would be to have the owner turn on the heat ahead of guests arrivals on cold days.
Beautiful old house in a great neighborhood with an excellent view overlooking the downtown area. This was billed as a 1.5 bathroom house. I would call it a one bathroom house. Getting seven people around in the morning with only one toilet was a challenge. Also, though listed as “sleeps seven” you’ll pay a hefty “extra guests” fee over and above the listed price if you’re actually planning on having more than two guests, which seems sort of deceptive.

We used this place overnights only, since we were visiting our family who are near neighbours. The place should not be listed until a variety of defects are removed. These are primarily electrical. In the bathroom: there is an outlet that is closer to the sink than is allowed under current code. There is no evidence that this (or any other sockets) are RCD protected; there is a heater on the wall that must be directly wired, and switched by the user using a pull cord. MUST be fixed before the next tenant! In bedroom 1, both reading lamps were faulty. A small movement of the cord entering base of these lamps would cause them to switch on (or off). So faulty wiring within the lamp base. The amount of light provided by ceiling fixtures was poor except for the kitchen. Need higher output bulbs/ better fixtures. The TV - well it wasn't one really, since it didn't receive either free-view input or Sky. This is totally unacceptable and should be stated on the advertising blurb.Apart from the kitchen the house has single glazing in its windows. We were warm enough, but this place would be miserable in the winter. The single space heater in the hallway is inadequate to heat the bedrooms and living dining area. There were two old poor space heater in the bedrooms but, again, these would do little to take the chill off in the winter. The entry from the from gate is steep. Very unsuitable for older people. At the least the steps, or the slope should have a handrail.
