About this property

IdleWild - Secluded Absolute Beachfront Escape

Cosy, colourful, beach front 70's shack with lots of personality.

Unwind cocooned in IdleWild's embrace.

Bike ride with your pets along the empty beach to get some just shucked oysters from the oyster shack, take a hot bath in the dunes and finally curl up with a glass of wine by the wood stove, listening to the waves rolling in whilst someone else cooks dinner...

If you are looking for a stunning location, privacy, relaxed lamplit comfort, a bit of heart + soul and a proper kitchen, IdleWild is for you!

Centrally positioned, this is the perfect base to explore Wine Glass Bay, Freycinet, Bicheno and inland as well as the local wineries and restaurants...all within less than 40 minutes drive.

Literally a stone's throw from the shore, it is both pet and kid friendly with gates preventing beach access from the house and a pet fenced one acre immediately around the house. Yet it's at the Swansea end of the beach so only a few minutes into town

30 minutes to Freycinet National Park and Bicheno (and the Lobster Shack!). 40 minutes to Maria Island Ferry and minutes to the restaurants and wineries around Swansea, this is the perfect base to explore Tasmania's East Coast or to just enjoy the local restaurants and wineries whilst relaxing in your own private beach house getaway.

IdleWild offers comfortable accommodation for 4 adults but can cater for 6 with three bedrooms, a bathroom with shower, two toilets and laundry, all in the downstairs area.

Previous guests often comment on how comfortable the beds are!

The bedrooms comprise king bed, queen bed and a double bed configuration. The king bed is a zip king so - on request - can be set up in advance of your stay as two single beds. 100% cotton sheets and towels are provided. You will need to bring your own beach towels. All beds have foam and down/feather toppers and down/feather pillows. If you are allergic to down there are replacement synthetic pillows available.

The cosy upstairs living area features a large sofa, a mid century chaise longue and a giant floor cushion as well as a wood fire (with as much firewood as you want) 50 inch digital Smart TV - with Netflix, Prime, Disney, Binge and Stan.

There are also books and games and a Bluetooth/WIFI Bose Soundtouch speaker for music streaming.

It has a modern well equipped cooks' kitchen that includes a dishwasher, combi microwave, oven and induction cooktop. An electric BBQ is outside on the deck. A new addition is an automatic De Longhi Coffee Machine. Please refer to all instructions. The cooktop has a child lock.

In the pantry is some decent coffee with a range of Twinings foil teabags , and some Hot Chocolate. Olive Oil, Balsamic, salt, ground pepper, sugar, plain white flour and a jar of muesli. Plus cleaning products including dishwasher tablets and clothes washing detergent.

Explore

There are some fantastic food and dining options nearby as well as the Freycinet National Park for great walks and totally epic Friendly Beaches for a surf.

Food and Wine...

There are a range of close by eating options.

Fresh oysters (and champagne) are available just 5 kms along Dolphin Sands Rd direct from Melshell Oysters. Get your oysters almost immediately after they have been harvested from Great Oyster Bay. Their oyster caravan is open from 10am to 4pm daily, for eat-there or take-away. Or ride your bikes there...it's the best afternoon!

The Waterloo Inn in Swansea (10 minutes drive or also a possible bike ride) and is fast gaining a fabulous reputation under it's enthusiastic young new team.

The Saltshaker does great thin crust pizza (takeaway or eat in) and the Horny Cray a tasty fish and chips.

There are 6 local wineries with cellar door tastings, and some with food including Mel’s Kitchen and Devils Corner. You can also book at table for dinner at Piermont which is 15 minutes drive.

Gala Estate Cellar Door also sells merino wool goods along with its delicious wine.

Two IGA supermarkets and a bottle shop in Swansea allow for self catering without having to pre plan.

Get Active..

Whilst you are our guests, IdleWild and its five acres are solely yours to enjoy. Nine Mile Beach is as long as its name suggests and it is likely you will have it to yourself most of the time.

The gardens here a full of native plants and trees and are a wildlife haven..wallabies skip across the dunes at dusk, whilst you will probably not miss the possums either! It is home to innumerable birds of all sizes and shapes and colours and song.

We have room for a boat here with three places nearby for launching. At the North end of Dolphin Sands road there is an easy launch into Moulting Lagoon and from there you go into Great Oyster Bay and catch all the flathead you want!

Freycinet National Park is about a 30 minute drive for the famous walk to Wine Glass Bay and for the more adventurous an excellent scramble up Mount Amos for incredible views across the park.

IdleWild...Idle a while in the wild.

Please note that if you book for one or two people we will assume one bedroom will be used, if extra bedrooms are required please advise at booking. Otherwise a fee of $110 per room per night will be charged post stay. Thank you!

Private, secluded gem
We loved staying in this quirky 1970's gem !! Everything you need is here in this stunning part of Tassie. We got so much delight from the styling and added rements of a past era in which we grew up in. The view tantalises the senses. The little 4 seater glass table had us playing backgammon looking at the view for hours over a wine and nibbles. The inclusion of bikes for rides on the beach were so much fun. Comfy beds, well appointed kitchen and new bathroom was fabulous. Have a bath outside with some bubbles and a cheese platter to embrace the whole experience. Such a delightful stay on every level.

Million dollar view and so peaceful
Fantastic view and so peaceful, it was a shame to leave. The house was very nice, modern kitchen and bathroom, but we found that the furniture was a bit old and uncomfortable.

Secluded Getaway
We loved getting away from everything at IdleWild. Nestled in the dunes with magnificent views, the 70's beach shack was perfectly quirky, cozy and comfortable. Having bikes to ride along the beach at low tide was so much fun. Suited us perfectly. Thankyou.

Stunning location. Really enjoyed our stay although maybe a few things needed upgrading in the house - the front door for example! So difficult to lock/unlock! And the key box opens no matter what number you put in. Loved the fireplace. Little cold downstairs in the bedrooms but very cozy upstairs. Beach is lovely and only 50 mins to Coles Bay. Would be amazing spot in the summer.

February fabulous
This was the sanctuary we needed to replenish. The location is amazing of course, but it was the little improvements that made such a difference. We were there last year and we thoroughly enjoyed out stay, but to our surprise there were many additions to take it to the next level. This place now has more equipment to enjoy the beach and a fab Delongi coffee maker. We loved the new couch and day bed to read to nap on or my newest book. We had a great bicycle ride on the beach with the bikes they kindly provided...oh and the body board was perfect because we forgot ours. The house was clean and ready to enjoy. Great ambience with the lamps. Thank you for such a lovely experience and improvements!
