The COVID-19 outbreak has changed the way we travel, but it hasn't dampened our eagerness for exploring. Here are a few tips on how to handle travel's new challenges:

• Find out what rules and restrictions apply to both your origin and destination. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so remember to check in advance.
• You must wear a face mask at the airport, including at screening checkpoints. Be ready to lower your mask for ID purposes when asked by a TSA employee.
• To reduce the likelihood of cross-contamination, position your boarding pass on the reader yourself and then hold it up for inspection. Do not hand your pass directly to a TSA employee.
• TSA is now permitting passengers to take one container of hand sanitizer, up to 12 oz (350 ml) in size, in carry-on luggage. This will have to be removed from your bag for X-ray screening.
• Empty your personal items from your pocket, like your keys, phone and wallet, and put them in your carry-on rather than the bins. This will reduce handling during the screening process.
• Separate any food you have for screening. Placing it in a clear plastic bag and into a bin reduces the need for a TSA officer to handle and inspect your belongings.
