Pelicans fight over a fish dinner in Lake Tana, Ethiopia. The greenish blue waters of Lake Tana serve as the source of the Blue Nile, one half of the great river that once served as lifeblood to the Ancient Egyptians. Today the lake is home to a number of remote but beautiful island monasteries.

On the way to one of those monasteries we passed by a local fisherman in a traditional papyrus boat who was throwing some fish to the resident pelicans.

The Hotel Manger paid personal visits to our room to ensure that we were doing well, and in one case noted we were late for breakfast, and offered to arrange room service so we would not miss our breakfast. "Top 12 was incredible! Beautiful rooms, amazing views, lovely service and very safe! They arranged a great tour guide for the Lalibela churches and the food was great. Rooms are so clean and comfortable! Owner was personally available for us anytime which was so indicative of Ethiopian hospitality. We will stay again!"

"This hotel is absolutely excellent! It is beautiful, clean and safe and the staff are exceptional! It is a little away from Gondar town which is really nice and it is gated with security. It has outdoor patio area and a rooftop sitting area and a bar. Our stay Included breakfast which was made to order and delicious! Rooms have a balcony and are elegant and comfortable. Hot water at all times and they have a generator. We will absolutely be staying again! Thank you to the staff!! "
