Prepare for your taxi or rickshaw driver to be confused. That's the only drawback for this chain. The owners decided to call one hotel the Florence Hotel and the other the Florence Inn. The latter is next to a tiny park and is in a slightly nicer and quieter neighbourhood. The former is not far from the police station, so that's the landmark you want to give your driver.
Service at this hotel was wonderful. I had accidentally booked accommodation at the Hotel for one night and at the Inn for the remainder of my stay. My companion initially didn't want to swap rooms, so they just transferred the booking over. (Hope I still get my points!)
The bedding at this hotel is delightful. I'm an insomniac and I had no trouble snuggling in and getting sleep.
The shower was great. I really prefer tubs, but they had a rainshower and plenty of hot water, unlike other places I stayed in India. Both the bedroom and the bathroom were immaculate. This was one refuge from the never ending march of bugs.
The room was quite spacious and contained a couch and a desk in addition to a nice bed. It was easily larger than a "suite" I had booked in the suburbs of Mumbai.
I shouldn't have to write this, but toilet paper was always there when you needed it. We had to pinch it from service carts elsewhere in India.
The hotel restaurant is a bit pricey, but the food will not make you sick. Europeans should be just fine with what you can get here. Indians will find the food a bit on the bland side. A breakfast buffet is included, and you can request masala omelettes which are quite nice. The restaurant itself is open for snacks all of the time, but they don't serve dinner until 7PM. Alas, there is no mineral water included with breakfast. One of the local dhabas will cater to you for just 24 rupees and the other for about 120.
Internet service is sporadic. There are power failures. Expect both of these anywhere you travel in India.
Air conditioning was fast, cool, and effective.
It's not located in a touristy section of town. If you're looking for that, realise that this is not the pick for you. However, if you're interested in finding an engagement ring or a special piece for that special someone, this is a great place to stay. The street next to the hotel has literally dozens of jewelers. If your room faces the main street, things might be a bit noisy for your tastes, though once again I had no problem sleeping between midnight and 8 in the morning. (One day I even took a mid afternoon siesta.) Indians constantly honk their horns, so this is hardly the hotel's fault. My room had nice blackout curtains to keep out the light, and the difference in the level of noise between outside and in was remarkable. There's a bit of hallway sound since the floors are marble.
The concierge is quite nice. He rang the national museum to check availability for me. He was also helpful in arranging for cabs and tours. Another option is to walk between the hotels and find a cab or rick yourself.
In all, I was quite fond of this hotel. It was one of the nicer ones during my trip.
