"The big difference with this Inn over other corporate alternatives is the staff taking ownership of their work. The two girls doing waiting service for evening meal reflected what the place is about. In a nutshell, they cared about the service. What a difference to see staff invested in their work. It’s pricey but worth the money when you get honest service like this. "
"Exactly as described. Beautifully and tastefully decorated throughout. Everything you need in the kitchen and more. Great host. Checking in and out worked like a dream. Thank you"
Quirky Cottage in The Heart Of The Yorkshire Dales. Great reviews. Book early
10/10 Excellent
"The cottage is so cute and quirky!Very clean! It is so very central in Hawes; excellent location. Wonderful Chippie across the street; market outside the door on Tuesday, Wensleydale Cheese outlet/giftshop/factory a few steps away. The entire village is within walking distance and a delightful, nostalgic break from the workaday world. That doesnt mean its sleepy; its a vibrant, bustling village!Perhaps a bit more emphasis on the quirkiness of the cottage would be helpful. The stairway system, while extremely charming, could be quite a hindrance to anyone to has even the slightest mobility issue(s). They are winder-style steps and can be tricky. As well, the bathroom is at the top of the first flight, lounge is two steps up from there; master bedroom is another short flight with the 2nd bedroom up another flight. Although we found this rather fun, to get up to the bathroom in the night was a challenge from the top floor. We left the hall light on.The beds werent the most comfortable. Springs poking in the master bed and the twin beds were quite unforgiving. Ok maybe for kids, but quite uncomfortable for adults. Another suggestion would be a larger saucepan or two. We tried to make porridge and the pot was small and very light-weight with the nonstick worn off. Overall, would highly recommend this sweet cottage for holidays! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Hawes. Million dollar views all around! From the master bedroom in particular!"
"Our welcome when we arrived was excellent. Liz was very helpful telling us sbout breakfast etc. Our room no 5 was quite spacious and had a nice view of the hillside of the dale. Breakfast was well cooked and tasty. Glenn was very efficient and knowledgeable about the area and made you feel relaxed with his banter. The en suite was a tad small but we managed ok. Will return and stay with them again at some point if we are visiting the area."
"Very welcoming. Lovely room and smart TV. Breakfast was excellent and opportunity to get 20% off meals and drinks at the neighbouring pub was unexpected. "
"A five star property and staff — some of the best food we’ve ever had traveling, and here it is in the Yorkshire Dales! Friendly, helpful staff to a person, every shift, every position. The historic manor house buildings are beautiful, tastefully updated to allow a glass-walled dining wing that looks out over the rolling green hills. It’s a stunning setting.
The bedroom is the only shortcoming. Peer facilities might offer visitors pillows of various stiffness to accommodate different sleepers’ preferences. Stone House provides two different pillow textures — granite and oak. I exaggerate only a little. They have the hardest, least comfortable pillows of any facility we’ve ever visited. Sleep was rocky, in a word. The mattress is sub-par, and the double bed too small for the price (the room could allow a Queen or King). The bathroom light is a terrible cold white color.
Someone should visit similar places and compare their bedroom facilities to what’s offered at Stone House, and bring those bedrooms up to the superb quality of the dining, staff, and environment. "
