Was kept awake until 12.30am on a sunday night - NO breakfast available san we paid for breakfast for 2 nights - dirty bathroom, dirty walls - WOULD NOT RECOMMEND

quick check in at bar, unfortunatly the tv did not work in the room, but this was sorted by moving me to another room. The room was great nice and warm as it was freezing outside. Bed comfy and clean, bathroom great, good wifi. Great stay great staff.

Two piles of sick on the carpet as I entered the pub to access the ‘hotel’. Quite a loud and lively pub until gone 1am on a Sunday night (Mon morn). Not a peaceful stay therefore as the noise is audible from the room I was in. Basic room but tidy, curtains didn’t fully close, shower either no pressure or pressure but too hot, wardrobe but no hangers (??!!).

having stayed here many times this stay was very dissapointing as there was no running water at all, couldnt flush the toilet or have a shower or even have a cup of tea, especially my morning cup, not very happy at all, there was a small notice in the corridor door but nothing from a member of staff to apologize, they could of given us bottled water or some sort of compensation.

room was dusty, some parts had not been cleaned for a while, running finger across top of ledge above bedside cupboard for example produced a LOT of dirt .... room also noisy from some fan or central heating system or something .... also our credit card got overcharged by mistake by an additional £100 ! just lucky that we noticed it ! it took 3 x phone calls to get the refund, received no actual apology for the overcharge, all we got was ‘oh, that was the managers fault’ ☹️ not worth £75 for bed only, even for chester ☹️

Very good With 1 MAJOR Downside
We stayed in room 25, it was a clean room in good condition, the rooms are as you would expect an old building to be.. its never going to be a premier inn at that price range!! We had tea and it was good food and drink(for the price) Major Downside however! The university is just up the road and on Thursday night it was karaoke, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was rammed full of students dancing on the tables where people was eating food hours earlier. This wasn't to bad for us as we are a young couple and was drinking in the bar.. but had we gone to bed early, I'd have been pissed off as its easily heard from the room.

Filthy dirty. Needs complete restoration. Stairs looked they’d never been hoovered. All paint was dirty and grimy. All the chairs in room and bar were badly stained. Bar smelt of dirty school fat. Was advertised as including breakfast. Not the case. But tbh not sorry about that, i couldn’t have eaten there. Room cleaning was non existent. Rating 0 out of 10

Pleasantly surprised.
I read all the bad reviews and was a little concerned about what we would be turning up to. But, we were pleasantly surprised. Yes, the decor was dated, but the pub is 100 years old. The room was small but not a problem for a couple of nights stay, the bed was very clean and comfy. The shower was brilliant. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay again for a weekend break. Thanks for a nice stay.

I arrived about 4.30 to stay the night on my own in my room. There was no TV and when I went to enquire about breakfast times I was informed that they didn't do breakfast.

I have stayed here several times, i really like the relaxed atmosphere, quick check in, lovely comfy bed. clean bathroom, tv and wifi great, great helpful staff. Will definatly be back.

The way I was treated by staff, told to get get my own brewing stuff from Tesco was shocking, also tried to book a taxi to get to the train station only to be told that the pub is blacklisted by every taxi company in Chester and to find my own! Shocking stay

First impressions are bad at the check in with peeling Paint above reception, the same once in the room, peeling Paint in the bathroom, carpet looked like it hadn't been vacuumed for s while, on checking out there wasn't any staff! Had to depart so pushed the key under the door. Be warned!

I was staying on business in the area, the place was pretty central, location wise. The room was clean and dry, however space was limited in the single room that I had. It does get quite noisy of an evening between 9pm and 12pm, especially on a Sunday & Thursday however it is expected if you choose to stay over a pub.

This has got to be the dirtiest hotel I’ve ever stayed in, the place was filthy in every aspect. The decor was in a really poor state with water stains everywhere, wallpaper peeling off the walls, filthy carpets. There was other people’s rubbish in the bedside drawers. Also a very noisy hotel with there being a road all the way round the perimeter.

Close to town, was about the only positive The room was claustrophobic and looked unkempt. There was dust all around, the windows were dirty the mirrors smeared, the tea and coffee tray was dirty. We were so disappointed. Certainly not worth the money paid. We won't visit this place again. The room smelling stale. Sorry but it ruined our weekend.

OK but noisy.
Hotel location is really useful for city centre events and the adjacent car park is free by refund from the hotel. The general condition is OK and the beds comfortable although the plumbing needs work (blocked sink and badly worn shower head in our room). But the overall reasonable comfort was spoiled by a deafening karaoke act in the bar which went on until after midnight, making sleep impossible. Advise checking the entertainment schedule before booking!

Historic building, easy to get to,awful beer,was refused food at 8.20pm, noisy till 1am on Friday ,but it is a pub,just a shame there was not more soundproofing as noise road meant windows had to be shut. The labels on front of taps did not match the back. We note cask mark has expired. Greene King should review their beer here. Met our requirements of quirky,we went out for a lovely tapas. Seems pub has a reputation.
