What I thought was going to be a relaxing getaway was an actual nightmare

I booked a getaway for my boyfriends birthday. It was mentioned we would receive a key upon arrival. We were never provided a key to lock up our belongings while away. There was trash ripped up and scattered all over the stairs. Thankfully we had a flashlight to help guid us down the dark stairway because there wasn’t much lighting. We were greeted by cobwebs and could immediately tell it hadn’t been kept. It smelled musty like mildew and needed ventilation. There was dust on all of the furniture including the bedding and curtains. It looked and felt like no one had been there for months. I was very disappointed at this point but tried to be optimistic because we did see the potential and after all it was already night. We were provided with a good amount of cleaning supplies and a washer/dryer so we began cleaning. 2+hrs and a whole paper towel roll later which was black after every use showed how much love this place was lacking. We did notify the host about our concerns along with photo evidence that same day. She responded the following afternoon saying the cleaning company would contact us but never did. Overall this place was dirty, dingy and inhabitable along with rude and incapable host. We couldn’t make it to the second night and left in the middle of a storm to say the least.

This listing should be removed due to excessive puffery and serious safety concerns. We arrived at night with minimal lighting and had to navigate over 100 poorly maintained stairs in near darkness. The dim solar lights on the path are inadequate, and the railings are unsafe. While the houseboat's interior is decent, the exterior and surrounding property are in disrepair. The dock and floaters are dangerously dilapidated. The water tastes like rubber due to a 500-foot hose instead of proper plumbing. The dock, supposedly for lake views, was surrounded by boats and dirty chairs covered in bird droppings. The hot tub is “shared” and located up at the main house. I nearly tripped on exposed nails going down to the boat. We stayed only one night due to the late hour, but left by 9 AM. At 300/night, this place is unacceptable. The holding tank hadn’t been pumped since July and the bathroom smelled awful. The owner was unhelpful upon arrival, hiding in her house with lights off and offering no assistance. Communication was poor before and after booking and my inquiry about previous bad reviews went unanswered—until we arrived when I was told those reviews were from people who “broke the rules.” The tone of nearly every message from the host is about rules and fines. I reached out to VRBO but only got canned AI responses. This is a confrontational host with no regard for guest safety or service. I've reported them to Mecklenburg County. Pics fail to show reality.

Would never stay here again!

I came down here for my bachelorette party..hosts were nice and responsive to talk to at first. Upon arrival, I had no clue where to even go to get to the boat. Then when we found the stairs.. there were about 50 stairs going straight down with no hand rails at all. And we were never even told to be careful. When we walked in the boat we came into a dirty place..someone left a dirty towel and used drink bottle and wrappers around the boat. The couch was dirty and there was an awful smell which we thought was gas..but told there was no gas so I have no idea what it was. Air conditioning didn’t work in the bedroom and so he told us where we could get fans out of his garage. We decided to try and stay to get our moneys worth so we asked him if there were lights at night to get back down the steps. he told me to buy flashlights and he would refund me..which he never did. So we decided the smell was too bad for us to stay so we left at 10 pm. I was told I would get half my money back and I was super happy with that and thought that was fair. But after a week of not getting my money back he said he wasn’t refunding me because he thought as a “Christian” we were entitled and undeserving of a refund. I would suggest no one come here even if it sounds like a good idea..I should have checked more into it. Maybe look for another alternative to a Houseboat or a different one altogether
