Firstly, when trying to contact the owner on the number provided about check in so I could book trains, I had to send 3 messages in order to get a response. This was despite the fact I could see he had read all of the messages. It was only when I said I would contact hotels.com if there was a problem with the booking that he bothered to respond. We realised when we checked into the property that in fact it was a completely different property to the one we booked. We contacted the owner and he said that it was because there was something wrong with the plumbing in the one we booked and that he had contacted hotels.com and they had said he could change it. This was a lie. When I contacted hotels.com they knew nothing about it. We had booked the property to stay as a group of friends following a birthday meal at a nearby restaurant and had travelled down from London. The property we booked had looked nicely decorated with a lounge and in good condition. The property we ended up in had no communal area so we all had to sit in bed watching tv. It was in the middle of an unattractive estate with local youths sitting on the wall outside, it was cold and had mould in the bathroom and was basically a student house. Had it been easier for us to find somewhere else suitable at the last minute we would have left but we were forced to stay as there was no alternative accommodation available nearby.
