Porchlight Stays' Almost Heaven is the rare large-group cabin that actually feels like a home. Set above the South Toe River in the Black Mountains outside Burnsville, NC, it offers mountain and river views from two spacious decks, a private hot tub deck for evening stargazing, and a fully renovated gourmet kitchen with dining for 10. The bedroom mix is ideal for multi-generational trips and group getaways: two king suites, a full bedroom, and a bunk room with two fulls and two twins. A foosball table, board games, and a curated library round out the rainy-day options.

Located near Mount Mitchell and Mount Mitchell Golf Course (currently closed), the neighborhood is a beautiful community nestled into the mountains with a serene river view. The roads are maintained by the HOA and are plowed in winter. We do recommend AWD or 4WD in winter.

We live off site, but are always happy to help. All guests receive our guidebook to the area, which also contains a house manual with information to assist you during your stay.

* Our pet approval process is simple—we just ask a few quick questions to get to know your pet better. You can find more details in the House Rules section of the listing. Please note that a pet fee applies per stay. You’ll see the fee automatically when you add your pet to the reservation, or we can add it afterward through a change request.

**Management Fee = Hot Tub Fee
To keep base rates lower, the hot tub is optional. Since most guests use it, the fee is automatically added. If you don’t plan to use it, let us know at least two weeks before arrival, and we’ll refund the hot tub (management) fee.

A signed waiver is required per our insurance. Please follow all hot tub rules in the rental agreement and posted at the cabin.

Hurricane Helene: Our area was affected by Hurricane Helene, but the landscape has largely recovered and we’re basically back to normal. Neighborhood roads and nearly all routes to Burnsville and Spruce Pine have been repaired and are open, and restaurants, attractions, and businesses are operating as usual with only a few exceptions.

The Mount Mitchell Golf Course is closed for golf play; however, the grounds are still open to guests for walking, dog outings, and fishing. Grassy Creek Golf Course is open, and Roan Mountain at Carver’s Gap at the Appalachian trail, along with many other nearby hiking trails, are fully accessible.
