Buckhead Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Atlanta History Center which includes a garden, landscape views and a fountain
Known for its elegant residential neighborhoods, this affluent Atlanta district has upscale shopping malls, lush parks and a museum that honors the antebellum South.

Visit stylish Buckhead for its combination of historical landmarks and museums, luxury shopping, upscale dining and trendy nightlife spots. Buckhead is made up of over 40 neighborhoods, where grandiose works of architecture frame wide tree-lined avenues. Find pockets of greenery and family-friendly entertainment as you tour this sub-city of Atlanta.

Step back in time to Atlanta’s farming roots and delve into the folkloric traditions of the South at the Atlanta History Center. Spread across a 33-acre (13-hectare) park are exhibition halls, Civil War relics and historical homes. Experience elitist lifestyles of the 1920s and 1930s at Swan House. The Smith Family Farm survived the Civil War and features a blacksmith and smokehouse.

The Georgia Governor’s Mansion is a delightful example of a Greek Revival-style home. Join a guided tour to see some of its well-appointed rooms. The Gothic Revival Cathedral of Christ the King and Cathedral of St. Philip are other architectural treasures.

Enjoy everything from art classes and exhibitions to horse riding lessons, tennis and walking trails at Chastain Park. The Chastain Park Amphitheater has hosted music legends such as Aretha Franklin and Frank Sinatra. Picnic on the meadows of Frankie Allen Park. Play golf at one of Buckhead’s three 18-hole courses.

Keep the children entertained with a day out at the LEGOLAND Discovery Center. The art deco Buckhead Theatre welcomes big-name music acts. Hop between the varied bars and restaurants that line Peachtree Road and Roswell Road.

Over a thousand retail outlets make the district a beacon to shoppers. Phipps Plaza has luxury labels such as Gucci and Versace. Nearby Lenox Square offers both brand-name and high-end fashion. Delight in the many dining, drinking and shopping options of the walkable six blocks of The Shops Buckhead Atlanta.

Atlanta’s metro system provides a quick transportation link between Buckhead and Downtown Atlanta. Distances are large between some attractions so consider renting a car in order to maximize your time in this desirable area.
