We absolutely loved the seclusion and Mountain View’s. It was awesome that the property was pet friendly. Our dog got to join us for Christmas. The house was everything we wanted and more. From the outdoor fireplace to the hot tub, we enjoyed just being at the property. I put a one star for the skiing only because we were not there to ski and it was an unseasonably warm Christmas. But I would imagine getting to the slopes with HWY 74 being very accessible from the property. I wanted to thank Steve, the owner for outstanding communications and support throughout the entire process. We will definitely recommend the property to others. Hopefully we might get back there for some Trout fishing.
The home is really at the top of the mountain with beautiful views. It was well appointed with about everyone would need for an enjoyable vacation. The property manager was extremely helpful with the few questions we had, as was the owner.
The property is beautiful and the most well stocked of any property I have ever stayed at. The owner was wonderful to communicate with. There was an issue with receiving the link for access to the property but once we got a signal the owner responded within minutes. I will add that getting the cabin is sketchy but once you get there the views are well worth the drive. Wonderful size of the property for a large family esp for holidays. Would def rent this property again.
Great property. It had everything we wanted. A big kitchen, lots of open space upstairs to hang out and a great functional space downstairs for the kids. Lots of nice features too. We came fully prepared with lots of food and supplies since it’s a ways to any store. The only drawback was the slow internet. Also, the last couple hundred yards of the driveway is really steep. It wasn’t an issue for us but we didn’t have any ice or snow. Something to keep an eye on though if visiting in winter. I guess that’s the price for those amazing views! All-in-all it’s probably the best VRBO we’ve ever stayed in.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property.
1. The drive to the house is challenging. It is about 30 min of mildly windy roads (very well paved) with poor cell signal. The owner included EXCELLENT instructions on how to reach the house without a signal. He warned me that the property does not show up on GPS maps but I later found that it shows up on Waze and that Waze can work without a cell signal. This made the the final stretch of a mile or so much easier (where the incline is greater).
2. The view is amazing. You can't really tell until you get to the house, but the rear porch has an awe-inspiring view of the mountains. There is also a clearing adjacent to the driveway that offers nearly 180 degrees of unobstructed views.
3. The house was in great shape and there was plenty of room for the 6 of us to stretch. The master bathroom was one of the better ones I've seen in a rental.
4. The house was stocked better than any rental house I've seen. We had more than enough paper towels, TP, and surprisingly had many spices and cooking instruments. The latter was key because it was not easy to get to the store (Ingles was 1 hour away).
5. We did a lot of activities at NOC. It also had the only restaurant that was close. It was about a 40 min drive from the house.
6. The AC unit on the main floor went out. The owner was extremely responsive and helpful in somehow getting this fixed over the holiday weekend. I really appreciated it.
Our daughter worked at the nearby NOC for the summer, and we came a few days early to enjoy the area before moving her back home. This house was wonderful! Lots of room, clean and had everything we needed. The NC mountains are beautiful and we appreciated the hospitality. Thank you.
Cabin was great. It had all the amenitiesand was clean. The only inconvenience was that the bathroom doors didn't had any locks. If you are staying with families, you certainly need locks on the bathroom doors. Besides that the property was great
Excellent experience
We welcome the chance to return
Please forgive some minor damages to outside patio furniture our dog liked sitting on it, happy to replace.
Best regards
Steve
This was our first time visiting the area so we had no idea what we were getting into. We booked this property because of its proximity to rafting at the Nantahala River. I'm so glad we did because the house was amazing. Two families of 4 with all kids between the ages of 9 and 11 and it never felt cramped whatsoever. But the best part was the views. Amazing views, beautiful property, great hosts. We will be staying here again.
We had an amazing weekend with family ranging from 7-67. The house was perfect and the location could not have been better. We came from Wisconsin and met my parents there who are from Pennsylvania. We relaxed, enjoyed the views, hiked the river, rode motorcycles on Tail of the Dragon, took a train ride in Bryson, and so many other “touristy” things. We loved the property, Steve was very responsive, as was Trudy. We would gladly stay there again. Thank you for the hospitality!
We spent a wonderful long Memorial Day Weekend at Lone Star Lodge. We brought our food and our pets, and the rest was there and ready for us! The beds are very comfortable, there is ample living area, a big deck with a fireplace and beautiful view, and everything we needed for a family of chefs and eaters! We ventured to Joyce Kilmer old growth forest for a nice hike, and we rafted the Nantahala. But other than that, we enjoyed the peaceful seclusion of the comfortable, spacious, clean house. Thank you, Steve and Angie, for easy, excellent communication, and a great weekend!
Very large spacious house with lots of room for family and any guests. The septic system smelled terrible (especially in the mornings) when there was no breeze. Other times it was no issue. The smell was not good in the basement bedrooms at times. The cost for the cleaning fees seemed excessive in our experience from renting numerous properties.
Very nice home but also the pet fee ($175), hot tub cleaning fee ($150) and regular cleaning fee of $300 ($625) seems excessive.
Great views of the Natahala valley.
I've stayed at a number of VRBOs in North Carolina and spent many nights camping in the mountains, but rarely have I seen views that compare to the views from this house. There is a field adjacent to the house with views of the mountains that will leave you speechless. The sunsets were stunning. As for the house, the kitchen was very well-equipped, and the Woolrich blankets in the den were the warmest ever. The house was clean and everything was in good working order. The WIFI was a bit spotty, but that's life in the mountains. The drive up the mountain was intimidating at first, so I wouldn't arrive after dark. Once you've made it up the mountain, you'll get the hang of it and the drive won't be an issue. The owners were very helpful with detailed directions to the house. I can't wait to return in warmer weather so we can enjoy evenings on the porch.
Lone Star Lodge sits on an incredible Piece of property. There is a view out every window. We were lucky to have rented during the fall peak season. The colors from the porch (and every window) were absolutely spectacular. Prior to heading to Topton, we had put together a list of questions. Steven and Angie took the time to answer each question and provide suggestions on restaurants and things to do while visiting the area. During our conversation they explained the drive to the house and the challenges it would pose. So we made sure to arrive during daylight. The house had everything we needed and we all had a wonderful time. There was 6 of us that went on this vacation and our ages ranged from 52-79. Our days started with coffee on the porch and ended with a fire in the fireplace and either games of Yahtzee, cards, or watching football on tv. We had an opportunity to me Trudy, the property manager, while staying at the Lone star lodge, she was terrific. Thank you Steven and Angie, your home is beautiful!
Our multi-generational family appreciated the layout of this home, as grandparents could sleep upstairs in the main master bedroom while the rest of us (2 adults, 3 kids, and a puppy) slept downstairs in the 3 bedrooms on that level. The drive up the mountain was an adventure, especially the first time, but we appreciated that the owner called the day before to talk us through it. After that conversation, we adjusted our arrival time to make sure to get there during day light, and our minivan and attentive driver made it through just fine. The owner was also available as soon as we had trouble getting in, to help us and update the code. The home had every comfort we needed. We made good use of the abundant firewood and both fireplaces, and couldn't get enough of the beautiful views out every window. We highly recommend this home!
Steve have been in total attention from the beginning. Everything on point. Views are a dream. Location can’t be better if you really want to live the mountains experience. My dog felt like home. The only thing I should recommend on directions is to add an estimated distance between school and the gate because is a bit confused. Other than that Excellent experience. Would love to be back soon.
Really unique property that sits atop a beautiful mountain. It was great to not be around any other people and to have unbelievable views. Great communication from the owners and the property manager! The road up to the property is a little steep but really not a problem, kind of fun after your first time! Easy access to the other nearby areas. Rafting the Nantahala is just amazing! I highly recommend this home for almost any type of getaway!
The directions were a little tricky but once we arrived it was worth it. The house is gorgeous and the view are spectacular. Everything we needed for the kitchen was there and the laundry room was an added bonus. Doors on the back and bathrooms didn’t lock and no curtains/ blinds in the master made for early wake ups. Plenty of room and very comfortable. We would love to go back when the leaves change in the fall. Thank you Steve and Angie for adding to our summer trip memories with the kids.
We had a wonderful stay with white water rafting at the nearby NOC and canoed on the property lake. The property was clean with great amenities. We loved our stay and hope to visit again!

The views and house are spectacular. The direction were off putting.
The directions need to be drawn out so all can follow. We were driving around for 1.5 hrs locating the way up. We have 2 vehicles so decide to drive in a Kia Sportage with FWD, which couldn’t handle the 2 last hills up. We asked management to help us down and they were extremely helpful. The weather didn’t cooperate so we had terrible wind gusts which pushed water through the doors and we had to push a couch against it to avoid them from blowing open (that’s how strong the wind was)!!! All in all- better directions and warm explicitly about the proper vehicle so guests don’t encounter surprises that can be avoided. Oh the owner accidentally locked the door with the deadbolt and we couldn’t get in so he helped us through it, but initially made us feel a little uncomfortable by insinuating that we didn’t know how to operate a touchscreen door lock. We got it fixed and he realized he didn’t u lock the deadbolt! Beautiful property and amazing views!
Property was beautiful, communication with host was great, and check-in was easy. Our family enjoyed the surrounding area: Nantahala River, Appalachian Trail, Bryson City, and Smoky Mountains. We also enjoyed R&R time spent at the home cooking meals, using the fireplace on the deck, and having the flexibility to bring our four legged family members along for the trip! We have been to this area several times now and the roads are steep and windy...it’s not necessarily unique to this property, so plan on it if you’re wanting a stay with a nice view. Would definitely recommend!!
