"This was exactly what we were hoping for in this stay. The rooms were lovely and clean and the bathrooms were modern and fully stocked. The inn itself was charming, the staff so accommodating and the food (both dinner and breakfast) were delicious. "

"Stayed here while we walked part of Hadrians wall. Ideal base. Beautiful barn conversation. The owners left us wine , biscuits and scones on arrival which was lovely. Would definitely stay here again "

"Stayed in the castle view rooms which we discovered on arrival were all dog friendly. This explained the scruffy paintwork, musty smell and stained carpets- but I would expect nothing else when dogs are allowed in the rooms. We would have preferred not to have been in dog friendly rooms but we didn't ask, so it is absolutely not the hotel's fault.
Overall, the rooms are quite tired and dated and could use a refurb. However, the bathrooms are a good size, the room had sky TV and two lovely doors which opened out, giving us a nice air flow and a chance to hear the peacocks out on the lawn!
The actual castle is fantastic of you are a history buff and the bar area and restaurant were lovely. Great breakfast choice.
For the price we paid, this was fine for one night."
"Very central right at the end of the Cumbria Way walk and next to the cathedral. We were able to park at the rear arriving just before 3pm. We had a twin room which overlooked all the roofs of the additions done to this hotel over the years. There wasn’t air conditioning in the room and our main window wouldn’t stay open without the spare toilet roll supporting it! Pigeons are an issue here with deterrents fixed to the window sills but they disappeared late afternoon. Our room was quiet at night. Water pressure was good for the shower but the floor did get wet as the shower screen wasn’t adequate. We stayed for breakfast, buffet style, which could have been a bit hotter. Overall it’s a lovely looking hotel from the front but inside there were areas of worn carpet to our room (248) and it looked a little tired in places."
"We had a great stay . Beds and pillows were really comfortable room was cool and a good size even in this hot weather . There was a fan in the room if needed
Room was very clean great stay and good value. Being close to the motorway the rooms surprisingly quiet . Would defiantly stay again . Be aware if you book through a 3 party site you need to pay a £5 parking charge per night . If you book direct you do not . Breakfast is served at the services opposite the hotel
Well done hotel team ."
"Hotel was ok, not the cleanest. Breakfast not great for the money you pay for it. Would have been helpful if had some sort of sanitary bin in the toilet."
"Lovely hotel in a fantastic setting. Room and bathroom a good size. Breakfast had a good choice of food and replenished.
The only fault is that the pool & spa area is not very accessible in that while the lift goes to floor one it is for staff only. It is also poorly signposted, we had to walk around quite a bit to find the changing room which was accessed through the ladies & gents toilets. Robes and slippers would also have been useful.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend and return ourselves."
