This property is old and nothing special. Many of the rooms don't have individual heat or air-conditioning controls. There's no TV in the room I was in. The bed was uncomfortable. And the website they advertise a bar in a restaurant, both of which were closed when I got there and are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, that was one of the principal reasons I chose that hotel, I feel like I was misled

My wife and I stayed here for a couple nights because of the affordable rates. Hunter, the bartender was great. We met a number of people from SC also getting away for the weekend. Food was great in the Hotel and Black Mountain. Highly recommend Fresh brick oven pizza. Enjoyed our stay. We’d recommend it

Restaurant was great but room felt worn out--dings in the wall from the absence of doorstoppers, scrapes and scratches. Deadbolt on door was only functional from the inside and did not work with the key from the hallway. Wood floor felt funky like it hadn't been mopped in ages. Heater in room seemed to not work very well. Breakfast options were limited. Staff were helpful and kind for the most part--hung the "do not disturb" sign on door, but still had a cleaner try to enter the room and seemed surprised to find someone inside....hence the sign. This has happened at a couple of hotels recently--are DND signs superfluous now? Enjoyed fire pit outside and rockers on front porch. At one point saw someone in the evening napping on a couch in the lobby area and watching a movie on a laptop. I went back two hours later and she was still there....unsure if this was a staff person taking it easy or a guest treating the area like her living room--seemed odd. Nice art gallery right beside hotel which is worth checking out and a good location to walk into town or to the lake.

Beautiful historic property that is a welcome change from the standard "chain" hotels. I personally do not mind at all that there aren't TVs in every room, the old hard wood floors creak and the rooms are heated by radiators. I think these things add to the character of the place. The lobby, bar and restaurant area was a fun bustle of activity each night. Easy walking to the "down town" area with numerous shops and dining options. The small continental breakfast was simple but all I needed and the coffee was good! If you have to have all of the modern amenities of a chain hotel, by all means, stay at one! I really enjoyed the Monte Vista Hotel and will be happy to stay there again!

The Monte Vista hotel was cute, unique and very clean! The patio area with the fire pit was lovely! They don't tell you when you make the reservation, but you have to have to make reservations for the restaurant (they don't do walk-ins even if you're staying there). So unfortunately we were unable to try the food. The room was cute and VERY clean! The floors were squeaky (it's a historic hotel of course) but this made it noisy from the people above us when they walked in the night. The workers were all very friendly and helpful! The only thing that was less than desirable was the Continental breakfast. Very limited options and the main option was a jimmy dean frozen biscuit that was soggy. Other than that, highly recommend and would stay here again! Cute area and easy to walk to night life!

Our stay at the Monte Vista was incredible. It had all of the charm and feel of an old hotel that catered to its customers needs. The lobby, restaurant, and bar made you feel that you had traveled back in time to when staying in a hotel was a luxury. Each room was uniquely decorated and had had an old world charm. One note and that this hotel does not have an elevator. I would travel back to Black Mountain and stay here again without any qualms.

Wonderful old mansion converted into a hotel and restaurant in historic Black Mountain. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant has great southern food. The hotel is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants. The hotel is also a short walk to Lake Tomahawk Park, which is a hidden gem.

Upon arrival, we were impressed. But then we had to carry our bags up to the third floor. The room is very bare. There is only 1 chair. Which means 1 person had to sit on the bed. It would be nice to have at least 2 chairs And a table to sit at. And we couldn't hang any of our clothes because there are no hangers in the closet. Big bathroom with no where to put your bath items, other than the back of the toilet. Not really where i want to lay my toothbrush. I also think every room should have a TV . Let your guests decide on whether to watch it or not. After a long day , having a tv would have been nice at 8pm when we were back in our room. And they're is no thermostat in the room. We were freezing! There is cold air blowing constantly. We Asked a few times and were told they would turn the heat up. Another missing element, no vending machines. We'd have to leave the building to get a beverage or snack. And sadly we arrived on a Sunday,to find out that pretty much all the restaurant's are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. As well as the hotel restaurant. 1 day was enough in black mountain. After sitting in our room freezing with nothing to do, we decided to check out early and go home.

Some rooms have IKEA furnishings. For an old hotel and the price we paid I expected better. Bar closes at 10 pm on Friday and Saturday night. Seems early. Breakfast was terrible. Go to coffee house 1 block away.

A very mediocre stay. I was expecting more per the pictures and reviews. The property manager/owner could do a lot to improve this boutique hotel. I have made a list below. 1. It is Halloween/Thanksgiving and there are zero decorations outside. This is laziness. 2. There is no trash can available outside and you have to walk to the restaurant to throw away your trash. This is inconvenient and strange for a hotel. 3. There is no mini fridge in the room. 4. We had a very small room right next to the stairs (210). You can hear everyone going up and down and talking. 5. The floorboards are extremely squeaky and you can literally hear every step from the room above. 6. The walls are so thin you can hear people coughing and moving in their bed in the neighboring room. 7. The mattress and pillow were heavily used and uncomfortable. 8. A terrible selection for breakfast and the coffee tasted instant. Rotten apples and Jimmy Dean's sandwiches with 1k of sodium and processed meat 9. No shampoo in the bathroom--only soap and conditioner

Disappointing
Overall, I was disappointed. The website leads one to believe it has recently been renovated. This was not the case. The individuals were kind enough but there were large gaps in service: The most positive aspect of the property was the insight restaurant, Milton’s. It was convenient and the food was good but the brightest spot was the service. Jennifer and Frances had great knowledge, professionalism, and provided EXCELLENT service! The outside seating does need to be “blown off” or cleaned. Listed below are the problem areas. 1. Check-in> There is NO assistance with luggage. No cart or human help. No cart because many stairs have to be navigated. An elevator should be installed or bellmen should be employed. . . . At least the option should be available. 2. Room temperature: the “wall“ units were below par and the room never cooled to a desired sleeping temperature. 3. The blind/curtains were insufficient to block out outside light and heat. 4. Bathroom: zero counter space. Old radiator was distraction. Tub/Shower was very narrow and outdated. 5. Closet was poorly positioned and difficult to open.

We loved the historic charm of this hotel! The room and bathroom was quaint but sizeable and very comfortable. The lobby was spacious and we loved the outdoor patio with fire pit. There were many breweries and restaurants to go to within walking disatnce which made this a perfect spot!Looking forward to staying there again in the future!
