  • This is the headstone of Banner Elk, North Carolina. This elk has been in the town forever, but this past year the elk has been refurbished and installed as the centerpiece of the town. This elk frames Appalachia in the sense of this small town pride in the mountains. In the background you can see the historic elementary school and rolling mountains and once again the North Carolina pride of the state flag surrounding this elk even though about 100ft to the right there is another flagpole with the same flags raised high and proud.   • Throughout my childhood I spent so much time at this park. I always remember of thinking of it as the park in the middle of the mountains. What I never noticed as a child was how every single aspect of this park was planned out and put there for a reason. Likewise before studying the photographic image I had never thought about how we construct a image and its affordances and constraints. One thing I really want to point out in this image is that while we have this beautiful park there is a huge ugly pipe in the middle of the photograph. It is part of the necessity of the planning of the park, just like the frame is a necessity of an image. We sometimes want to forget it is there but it is a necessary part of an image and still has meaning. #appalachianechoes

Perfect family getaway!

Rented this property for my kiddos fall break and it was perfect for our family getaway! Conveniently located near charming downtown Banner Elk, the Alpine coaster, gem mining and more. The owners were great and the place was beautifully maintained with an awesome porch and view. 10/10 would recommend!

Have stayed at many other properties in this area. This location in The Vistas by far superior to any of the others. Great location, beautiful views, clean and modern condo just as we had visualized. Already talking about staying in same location next year for our anniversary.

Four Day Vacation

The place is beautiful and we even got to see some snow while being up here! The snow plows came through which I was surprised. There was rock salt in a bucket at the door for us to use. The stay was great. However, we didn't receive a welcome letter/email with Internet information etc. All we had got was an email with the door code. I had to reach out for internet information, but they were very responsive and also had let us know if we needed to login to the streaming services for the TV, that they could help if they were not already logged in. The jets on the bathtub do not work, there was a note under the bathroom sink that mentioned this. When we arrived, there were two dirty dishes in the sink which I do not care, it isn't hard to wash them. However, all in all it was a great place to stay and would 10/10 stay again. It is also pet friendly, so there are doggy bags and trash bins outside. I hate complaining and even messaging them about the Internet and jets made me feel like the worst person.The people are responsive which I am glad for and I am grateful we could stay. Thank you!

Wow, what a wonderful condo! Super clean, beautifully decorated, scenic view, and located between Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain so both are only a few minutes away! Kids loved the shuffleboard game, too! This unit is pet friendly so I was expecting an odor but there aren’t any pet stains on the carpet or a pet smell at all! Can’t wait to go back next year!

Trip to the mountains

This is a lovely condo! Even better than the pictures. Convenient to Banner Elk, Lees-MacRae College, the mountains, and Blue Ridge Parkway. The beds were comfortable, the gas fireplace was very cozy, the kitchen fully equipped. The view was amazing! Better than the pictures of it. We flatlanders spent a lot of time enjoying the porch and the view. The owner was quick to respond to every question we had. We hope to return soon!

Everything was perfect - view was amazing

My husband and I and our doggie stayed for 8 nights to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Everything in the condo was perfect - exactly as described and shown in the photographs. We felt completely at home. The view from the deck was amazing and is such a nice outdoor living area. The kitchen was well equipped with good quality pans and dishes. The only downside for us was that the neighborhood is not necessarily very walkable - the streets leading in to the town of Banner Elk are not very pedestrian friendly and the hills are serious so we had to drive everywhere. However, the condo is conveniently located and once you get used to the curvy roads its an easy commute to Boone, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Linville Falls and more.
