Watch a play, see a movie or browse a contemporary art gallery at the Bank of Brazil Cultural Center. This multimedia complex is São Paulo’s main cultural hub, where you can see works by both young Brazilian and internationally renowned artists.
Notice the grand art deco building on your way in. The Bank of Brazil Cultural Center is situated on a corner and looms high above a pedestrian square. The building was constructed in the 1900s and has been home to the cultural centre since 2001, when the Bank of Brazil expanded its cultural facilities to São Paulo. If you are travelling to Rio de Janeiro or Brasilia on your trip, find Bank of Brazil Cultural Centers in those cities as well.
Check the centre’s website for a full calendar of events in all of its different venues. See theatre or dance in the centre’s performance space. Daily film showings in the cinema include international documentaries, short films by new directors and renowned art films.
Several gallery spaces are contained within the Bank of Brazil Cultural Center. Browse rotating exhibitions of contemporary local art and the centre’s permanent collection of modern art. Check the centre’s calendar on its official website for a complete schedule of exhibitions. The museum has featured exhibitions by famous artists such as Andy Warhol and Spanish painter Joan Miró.
Take a break between exploring the many different sections of the museum at the second-floor café. Enjoy a coffee or a snack while looking down at the pedestrian walkways below.
The Bank of Brazil Cultural Center is situated on Rua Álvares Penteado. It is easily accessible on foot, by bus or by metro from anywhere in central São Paulo. Parking is available for a fee in a lot on Rua da Consolação. While you may enter the centre for free, you’ll need to buy tickets to watch films and performances. The centre is closed on Tuesdays.
