The Herondale Hotel

8/10 Good
"This property can best be described as out of Dickens' novel A Tale of Two Cities: The Good: very recently it was very thoroughly renovated (reopened 2 months ago), it is 2-3 miles from the city center and thus is quiet, A/C worked great and was quiet, it has great views of the Columbia River, and it has a good selection of wines and treats to relax with while enjoying the views from the patio. The Bad: it's 2-3 miles from downtown Astoria, those wines and treats are dreadfully overpriced (e.g., a wine priced 270% more than I can get it at the nearby Safeway?), it is really a renovated "motel" than a real "hotel". Was it worth the price I paid? No. Still, it was the main summer travel season and I booked last minute – bad me. I gave it 4 stars as the plusses slightly outweighed the minusses."

"We were here for our anniversary and had the pleasure of seeing rabbits everywhere! They were so fun to watch whether they were kicked back in the grass or hiding from the kids in the blackberry bushes. (Parents, please don't let your kids harass the bunnies, they are for the enjoyment of everyone) Our room faced the beach and ocean and we could sit out on our balcony and watch kites and beautiful water. Highly recommended!!"
