“Stayed here only because the conference was here, won't go back.”
After paying to attend at and participate in the 2011 Sisters Inside Conference, held at the Citigate Sydney Center Hotel, I then booked my stay at the same hotel so that I would be able to simply go up and down in the elevator to get to my keynotes and workshops. The convenience factor was inarguable, but the restaurant was expensive; room service consistently delivered food outside my dietary restrictions despite my having discussed and specifically requested when I placed the order; the broadband was so slow that I spent 3-4 hours every evening addressing email while the same task at home takes less than 30 minutes; and the lack or wi-fi led to phone charges in excess of US$750 when I could have texted for free.
“Central Location”
The Citigate Staff were very helpful & friendly, the location is central & convenient to many restaurants, the local market, & Darling Harbour - perfect for what I needed. Parking was right next door so no hassles there. The room was clean, comfortable & spacious it was everything we needed for our weekend in Sydney.
“Not impressed. Big different between 4 1/2 and 5 star hotels in this case”
From the time you step in the lobby, i could tell there was a big different in that half a star between and 5 and this 4 1/2 hotel. The lobby stank like cigarette smoke, despite it being illegal to smoke indoors in NSW. The carpets in the room were disgusting and stained, the doorway to the bathroom had sharp bits coming out of the carpet and was on a slop, i tripped twice in a one nice stay. The bathroom sink was stained and had mould and so too did the shower. I will not be staying at this hotel, nor recommending anyone do. There are much better hotels within the area for the same, if not better price.
“good value”
decent hotel, rooms a little well used almost ready for refurb
“decent hotel with the price”
It is not a bad hotel. I don't think they have wireless internet. It doesn't seem easy to connect the internet with the cable.
“Good for the money”
Very cheap to stay, walking distance to everything, helpful front desk...uncomfortable bed.
“great stay”
hotel staff is extremely helpful! easy location right next to central station
“walking distance to everything in the cbd”
i'm glad we chose citigate. it is walking distance to our conference venue, close to chinatown where the cheap delicious meals are, as well as public transport.
“Great Location, Great facilities,”
Very nice well priced hotel in Darling Harbour, Would definately stay again
“Save your money and stay somewhere else”
The Positives: The hotel in itself is not too shabby. The rooms are clean and the bedding is adequate. The Negatives: The bathroom is tiny. The bathtub is extremely slick (I almost slipped but luckily grabbed hold of the shower curtain). The room overlooks a hideously dirty roof-top garage and opens up into neighboring building's balconies - filled with drying laundry. My partner and I looked for the views from all other sides of the hotel and did not see anything superior. Next, the hotel is in a very Asian part of Sydney with quite a walk to the Opera House and Royal Gardens. My partner and I were looking for authentic Australian/Aboriginal culture and I don't think that Citigate Central has anything bordering on even a hint of such affiliations. Finally, and most grossly - the service at the hotel. We had to wait three hours and call four times before a simple vase could be brought to our room as the hotel staff informed us to wait 5 minutes as "it will be right up." The incompetence and slow service both at the "concierge desk" and front desk could only be rivaled by the non-existent taxis that had been ordered for us and we waited for. After half an hour or so, we walked half a block and flagged one down. Ridiculous. So my advice for those considering visiting this "four-star" hotel is to get a three star one closer to Darling Harbor and spare yourself the agony of disappointment that Citigate readily supplies.
