“My favourite hotel in Stockholm.”
This is my favorite hotel in Stockholm., and I have been to quite a few. The rooms are relatively spacious as compared to relatively priced hotels. The have large windows, which I like very much. The breakfast it quite good. The location is great.
“2 stops from T-centralen, not bad”
We stayed in 3 different hotels in Stockholm. This one had the nicest breakfast buffet. It was a little further away from all of the touristy spots, so we felt like we experienced more of the real Stockholm.
“Fab design hotel”
Lovely stylish hotel in a quiet district but just few minutes walk from great shops & bars. Breakfast was amazing - make sure you fill up because it's yummy and plentiful! There's no air conditioning in the rooms (being Sweden) so be prepared for a stuffy night if you turn up on the hottest day of the year like we did! The free chilled drinks and fruit helped though! Nice touch.
“great location and service”
My son recommended this hotel because it is close to where he lives in Hamburg but it has many other pluses - it is just next to the train station (one stop away from the Central Station) and adjoins a beautiful city park. The hotel staff people were very friendly and helpful, and even allowed me to have my morning coffee downstairs without charge after a long night. Also, the views from the top floors are beautiful. I've been in fancier hotels but I enjoyed this one a lot. Very comfortable.
“Excellent”
Fantastic value. Quiet road despite being city-centre. Excellent breakfast with much choice. Compact room but so well designed(clever, well-functioning cupboards, two comfortable armchairs, tea&coffee in room) that it didn't seem too small. We appreciated free upgrade to business-room, and fruit & superb chocs on arrival + free daily bottled water in fridge. Despite distance from Gamla Stan (about 3/4 mile), pleasant walk or quick metro nearby. Very close to good restaurants. We'd stay there again.
“Wonderful & Affordable Stockholm Hotel”
Although the reviews of the Birger Jarl were a bit mixed, I decided to try it and was extremely pleased. The hotel is currently being renovated but that caused only minimal inconveniences (i.e. the front desk is temporarily located in the restaurant). The room was more spacious that I had expected after reading reviews of other Scandinavian hotels. It was recently renovated and very clean. The breakfast buffet is excellent and the hotel staff friendly and helpful. On the map it looks a bit far from downtown and all the attractions but it's not. It's a 10 or 15 minute walk or 5 minute ride on the #2 bus which stops 1/2 block from the hotel. The area around the hotel is quiet and residential. Check out nearby Odengatan for great cafes and restaurants. This hotel was an excellent deal.
“great value”
The people at the front desk were very helpful in offering restaurant recommendations, and even specific dishes at those restaurants. They were also very helpful with local information, including the location of a pharmacy that opened earlier than the other stores.
“Four days in Stockholm”
We recently spent 4 nights at the Birger Jarl. The hotel was well-staffed, the room was modern, bright in clean, the bed was very comfortable although the room was small. The breakfast smorgesboard was great. We waited until a week before our trip and tried to book directly but were declined then I tried booking thru Expedia and got a reservation. The hotel is close to the #2 bus route following Birger Jarl the street which bisects the city (north to south) and makes it easy to get around.
“EXcellent staff, well designed rooms, good location, great VFM”
A fairly ordinary 60s hotel from the outside but a classic inside. WHile we didn;'t have one of the rooms personally styled by top designers, the cleanliness, attention to detail (lighting, free soft drinks in the fridge )in design and room facilities was excllenet. The staff were incredibly helpful, positive and professional; and the buffet breakfast was as good as I've had anywhere (except one 5 star hotel in Vienna whose buffet included Sacher Torte...)We ate in the restaurant one night and the food was good - not great, but good and good value for Stockholm. Lovely cocktails as well. The location is 3 stops on the bus or 15-20 minutes stroll from the 'centre' - but Stockholm sprawls over several islands so nowhere is truly 'central'. This is as good a base as anywhere. Thoroughly recommended - already have one colleague hoping to stay there soon.
“better than all this fancy 5 stars hotels”
Very polite and helpful reception desk. The room was very clean and comfortable (The mattress was extremely good). Breakfast was tasty and rich, but was exactly the same every day for 6 days (Not enough variety of vegetables). The drinks at the minibar were free, which was really nice. Very good hotel for a reasonable price,
