We loved our stay here. The room was quite cozy but there were a lot of options to work with the small space! The view from our room was lovely as well. We also enjoyed the location, it’s close by to the subway and Times Square, but tucked away enough that it wasn’t loud in the evening. The only thing that could be changed is to add a shower curtain or glass window for the shower, as it is quite difficult for water not to get everywhere (even when you’re careful)! The good news was the ventilation system dries it up quite quickly, and it wasn’t an issue to ask for more towels from the front desk when we needed them. We really enjoyed our time here and we look forward to coming back!! :)

Great hotel that is a short walk from Times Square. If you are in NYC to see shows, this is the perfect location. If you don't like crowds, might not be for you. But the hotel and its staff are excellent. Nice rooms, very polite and helpful staff. Cocktail room has a happy hour and later a jazz band that is also excellent. Never got to the rooftop bar as the weather was not great.

Absolutely loved this hotel. My daughter and I stayed 3 nights in a cosy twin and it was perfect for us. Great style, great staff, great music playing in the public areas and the rooms were always beautifully made up on our return each day. Convenient location. Carnegie Diner on 8th an easy walk for a morning coffee too. Would definitely book again.

The Civilian is fine, extremely small rooms but that’s to be expected sometimes in NY. Thankfully the reception is staffed otherwise the checkin kiosks are not great and offer you everything except what you want to do. The breakfast buffet may be the worst $30 per person spread I’ve ever witnessed. An unwelcoming silent staff person standing in front of an empty counter that makes the Holiday Inn free breakfast look like fine dining. A waste of money and a horrible way to start your day. House cleaning is interesting, I don’t mind paying $15 more for cleaning when needed but the basic service they offer for free essentially consists of someone walking past the room without entering. At least as far as I could tell, I saw them in the hallway but no cleaning was done. I assume I was supposed to call even for the basic service which doesn’t include making the bed. Strange. I’d recommend downloading the app and using that to manage your stay, that’s The Civilians idea of customer service, but a bot was probably better than what I received. Thankfully the front desk people were very nice, but if you want traditional hotel services this ain’t the place.

Overall, nice property! Stayed for 4 nights and it was so easy and quick to get to Times Square. Only thing was room service never came to clean our room during our stay. Other than that we enjoyed ourselves and will definitely be coming back.
