“Comfortable and good value for the price”
The size of the room is small, but has everything you need, inlcuding wireless internet connection in your room. It rained one day, and the front desk provided umbrella, which was very convenient. The location is good, and transportation is convenient.

Could be more sensitive to moldy odor in the bathroom and room in general. Carpeting and duvet on the bed should be fresher smelling, as should the bathroom shower curtain.

Very appreciated with hotel service! The twin room is very spacious! The largest hotel room we've stayed in Japan. Buy the one day pass for the bus at the lobby, many bus stops nearby.

No complaints about this hotel. Excellent staff, clean room, convenient location to shopping, food, and bus stops/subway/taxi svc. All around great experience, even though we only spoke minimal Japanese. We would highly reccomend this hotel.
“Clean and comfortable with great staff”
When I was booked this hotel, I was essentially looking for a place that was clean and affordable. This was my first time in Japan, and Kyoto was on my list of must-see cities, but we were traveling on a pretty tight budget. So I booked the Hotel Oaks Kyoto Shijo knowing that it wasn't going to be anything fancy, but just looking for a decent place to rest my head after a day of sight-seeing. The hotel itself definitely met these expectations, and I'd give it the highest ratings for that alone. But it's also worth mentioning that the helpfulness of the staff definitely exceeded my expectations. They all spoke English surprisingly well, which was really nice, especially since I must have asked the front desk staff directions to half a dozen different places, including some not-very-conventional tourist destinations. Every time they gave me very good directions, told me the best bus and subway lines to use, and left me with a fistful of maps of the city. Also, when we first checked into our room, we were surprised to find a very large (at least 1.5") wasp just chilling on the wall of our room. We were headed out for the day anyway, so we mentioned it to the staff on the way out. When we returned that evening, they told us that they had seen the beast, but they hadn't been able to kill it and they didn't know where it went, so they switched our rooms for us. Overall, I was pleased with how they dealt with this exceptional situation, and I would definitely stay here again!
“Three nights in Kyoto”
We really enjoyed the service and friendliness of the hotel. Although the accomodations are small by American standards, it was a good experience. We had everything we needed and found the front desk very friendly and helpful. We would recommend the hotel very hightly.
“Economical, clean. Uncomfortable mattress, far from train station.”
Pros: 1. Lowest rates I found for a single room (with private shower and bath) in Kyoto. 2. On the main street, which makes it easy to find. 3. Clean. Cons: 1. Far from the train station. 2. It's on the main street (Shijo Dori) but still requires a decent amount of walking to the shopping area. 3. Room is small. 4. Mattress was extremely uncomfortable. I could feel the springs, so when I slept on my side, there was a slight bruise where the springs were pressed against me.
