“Friendly & Relaxing”
This is the second time we have stayed here. The staff are extreemly welcoming and friendly. The food here is amazing. This time we had Sunday roast and breakfast on Monday and couldn't fault it. The hotel is not the most modern and up to date but that's part of the character. If we'd have wanted a characterless Travelodge/Premier Inn that's where we would have gone. The bathroom and beds have been very clean on both occasions and to us that's what matters! I would definately recomend this hotel if you are looking for a natually friendly place to stay.
“Reasonable 'character' hotel”
Went here for a 'surprise' night away to celebrate our 1st anniversary since meeting and it was comfy and clean although in need of some general refurbishment in the communal areas but you pays your money and takes your choice, this is a budget hotel but with great service and better than a Travelodge and you get a really good choice for breakfast. Would go there again at the right price.
“Mostly ok”
Room was clean, staff very pleasant and helpful. Bed was rather too soft for my liking. Some redecorating has obviously taken place recently and it all looked very clean and fresh.(the part we were in anyway) Our room faced south east and with full height window along the entire length of the wall was rather hot, unfortunatelly the airconditioning unit from the kitchen was directly outside the window on a flat roof and extremely noisy so keeping the window open was not an option until the air con went off at about 10.30, ok for a good nights sleep but not so good for a lay in the next morning as it went back on at about 7.30. Also the full height window would have made it very easy for our dog to just walk out onto the flat roof. The secondary double glazing was quite rickety but welcome for keeping the noise out. Service in the dinning room was rather slow in the evening I did go down with a rather nasty tummy bug on the afternoon of the day we left, no idea if that was anything to do with the hotel or not.
“Support your staff”
Whilst only staying one night, we were made most welcome and the staff were friendly, helpful and (particularly the waitresses early on Sunday morning!) very cheerful. Other comments we read suggested the hotel needed a bit of a spruce up and we would tend to agree that a relatively small investment on the part of the owning chain would support the management and staff trying to provide an excellent service. Well done, would be happy to come back next time we come to the area.
“A pleasant Stay at The Bear Hotel”
The room we stayed in was clean and well-presented. Clearly the building is more difficult to maintain than a modern purpose-built hotel but we often prefer 'old' because it has more character. Our welcome at reception was efficient though somewhat lukewarm but the service in the restaurant was very friendly and efficient although we could have done without the piped music. All in all we had a pleasant stay and would certainly recommend The Bear Hotel.
