“Nicely done”

Beautiful structure and excellent grounds. It was a very quick trip for me, and I wished I could have made a couple of days of it. Only downside that I saw was a bit of a lack of professionalism among some of the young, immigrant hotel workers. Otherwise, great.

“One of my top ten favorite hotels”

This hotel is an absolute "find": The building and grounds are absolutely beautiful. The rooms just right and the service impeccalbe but friendly and warm. While Rotherwick is off the beaten path, the hotel is a worthy destination itself. We'd return tomorrow if I had the time and just stay put. Five stars is an underating.

“Great Country House Hotel”

Fantastic hotel, beautifully kept, with terrific gardens, great walks and wonderful surroundings. The rooms are huge and well laid out, the beds comfortable and the staff are first rate. The food at afternoon tea, dinner and again at breakfast was excellent, not a single criticism of anu part of our stay. And it was easy to find.

“Great for a short break”

The hotel staff were all friendly andprofessional. The hotel itself and location were superb. The bedroom was large and airy although the styling was a little outdated. The dining experience was very good, efficient and friendly service and good food. The spa facilities were average, the changing rooms were very small and not that well equipped, very poor quality hairdryer and no where to sit to do hair or makeup.

“We can't wait to return”

Staff went out of their way to be helpful and welcoming. We enjoyed our spa treatments and walking in the beautiful, extensive grounds. Afternoon tea was a highlight of our day. Breakfast the following morning was wonderful too. The indoor swimming pool was a little too cold for comfort. We will definitely return!

“Good for a short break”

The hotel building is lovely and the extensive grounds are well laid out with clear trails to wander out for fresh air. The supervising staff are very good but reliant on a less impressive mix of waiting staff which can result in inconsistent service quality though it was always swift and attentive. The oak room restaurant has a lovely ambience and the food was good. We had a job to reserve a table on arrival, a problem i don't think a country house hotel should present to a guest on arrival, although their own web site does suggest booking in advance and they do have rates inclusive of dinner, so perhaps that's fair enough. The library bar is mentioned as a place to retire to after dinner but the staff discourage its use and prefer to keep you in the lounges. We sat in the library both late evenings of our stay but were ignored and had to approach the bar for service. The staff tend to congregate and talk shop in there and on one occasion we overheard our leaving remarked upon "I'm glad they've gone" That aside, we enjoyed the overall experience and would use Tilney again.

“Lovely grounds, average rooms”

The grounds are absolutely stunning, and lazing by the outdoor swimming pool the bar, library etc are all lovely, and really feel as if you are in a luxury country house. The rooms arent so impressive; very chintzy and average. We loved our stay; mostly because it was a gorgeous summer day, and it showcased the hotel's best features. I don't think we would have enjoyed it so much in the rain.

“very nice country house hotel”

we were staying for a wedding taking place at the hotel so were very pleased that our room was ready on arrival to get ready. unfortunately that wasn't the case for everyone but we were fine. Our deluxe room on the first floor was spacious and very comfortable with a good ensuite (bath and shower) and Molton Brown toiletries. The bed was huge. It was bliss to relax with the papers and a pot of proper coffee (good selection in the room) The only fault we could find was that the room was very hot - the radiator in the bathroom was scorching. The whole hotel was over heated so I dread to think what their heating bills must be as it's a big place. Breakfast was excellent with a lovely selection including fresh fruit etc. as well as the full English. The dining room has views over the impressive gardens. From speaking to others it seems that those who booked via Expedia got a much better deal (and nicer room) than those who went direct to the hotel for their special wedding party rate. No time to explore the gardens or spa facilities but looked very good. Oh and the bar prices are eye watering!

“Go Back In Time”

We came for a peaceful and relaxing weekend with good food and service, but instead went back in time about 30years desperate in need of a reconditioning, As soon as you walk in to the hotel all sense of atmosphere goes, nothing like the brochure described,It was just a soulless place to stay and would never stay there again....Calvin (London)
