“Location, Location,Value”

Hotel Berg is an inexpensive, old fashioned apparently family run hotel, literally a five minute walk from the train station, which is right next to the tourist center of Cologne, and two blocks from the Rhine River. The staff is very responsive to the needs of their guests. The breakfast buffet is terrific: I miss the brotchen (rolls) and black bread. It'slocated in a peaceful area, but less than a fifteen minute walk from most things you might want to see in this city.

“Cologne 2010 Great Location”

I travel alone a lot so I am always looking for cheap places to stay. Hostels were not much cheaper. The breakfast was great. The hotel staff was wonderful. There are some stairs to climb. The bed was harder than I wanted, but worked. There bathroom is very close (which I knew it was shared) and there is a sink in the room which is nice. For the price, I got what I expected. If you are looking for cheap and convenient it works.

“Very Nice, Inexpensive and Friendly”

For the money I paid, which was not a lot, it was a nice, cozy room with plenty of heat which was great since I was there in December so outside it was freezing. The shared bathroom isn't a big deal because there is a sink in your room so you don't have to wait to brush your teeth or rinse your face. I was a little worried because of the proximity to the train station which normally means a bad neighborhood but I walked to and from all weekend while it was dark out and never felt uncomfortable.

The location of this hotel is superb. I appreciated the family run nature of it. It is by no means full of frills, but it is priced right for what it is, as a matter of fact, considering the location, I would call it a value and I will plan to stay there each year that I return to SPOGA.

I'd prefer them not to change the soap and towels every day since it's rather a waste of resources (I don't do that at home, so I don't expect it anywhere else). Otherwise, the hotel was excellent.

“Excellent Location”

This is a good no thrills no spills hotel. This hotel puts most of the major attractions Cologne has to offer in easy walking distance at most about 25 minute walk to the farthest location. The Dom can be receached in 5 to 10 minutes.

Location-wise the Hotel Berg is handy, the 'complimentary' breakfast a bonus, and the staff are attentive; however, the negatives slightly outweigh the positives. This establishment is fine if you are on a tight budget and are not overly fussy about the quality of your room and its amenities, which in the case of Hotel Berg can best be described as 'spartan'. Their standard accommodation with shared shower / WC is very basic. If you want to 'chill' in comfortable surroundings after a day of sight-seeing etc this is not the place for you. On the other hand, if you just want somewhere to 'crash' for the night then the Hotel Berg is adequate and affordable. Finaly, a word of warning; take care when using the WC, they are not of 'standard' design.
