“4 stars...not quite so starry”
What a wonderful trip it was in Barcelona, recommended to anyone! as for the hotel, although the reception appears to be 4 stars...when we arrived in our room - a little disappointed. The photos online are never meant to be totally accurate, but for the price we paid, it should have been better. the bathroom was fine...but the bath looked like the enamel have been patched up again and again. although it wasnt unhigenic, you'd expect better. plus the flush didnt work...or perhaps its more accurate to say it didnt stop flushing until you pulled and poked at it to stop the water running. As for the highly anticipated "kitchenette" (that we were hoping to use to cook up some local produce!)...it was clean and tidy - but that was no surprise given that no utensils were provided...not a spoon or plate or a pot or pan! so the delightful thing went unused. never were we told that we'd have to use up our 23kg baggage allowance with pots and pans, but its a word a warning for anyone expecting a fully equipped kitchenette here (or anywhere else for that matter)! Despite that, the hotel was generally fine. Theres no huge complaints, its just that it wasnt value for money. (local area was lovely though...check out the restaurant with the open charcoal grill down the road). Staff were a mix at reception...mostly very helpful, but our hostess on arrival wasnt particularly forthcoming.
“A mixed bag”
Nice, clean hotel close to a metro stop. But the service was quite bad, and a number of things they claim are misleading. For example, we had 4 rooms for our group and not all had kitchens as promised. There also was no "free glass of cava" as claimed and indeed the front desk personnel were less than friendly. The elevator from the garage didn't work and the employees practically sneered as they stood around watching us struggle to get our bags up the stairs.
“Not the best”
Our room was on the first floor and the noise was ridiculous. The walls are paper thin and we could hear every sound from the rooms next door and above us. This is in addition to the noise from the street. With all of this we barely got any sleep on the first night and when we informed Reception they barely gave us the time of day to fully explain the issue. We got an abrupt response saying the hotel is full and there was nothing they could do that day - check back in 2 days time. We were finally moved to a room on a higher floor which reduced the street noise but we were still kept awake from surrounding rooms. The staff didn't seem to care.... On a positive note - there was free internet available for guests and this was very convenient.
