runDisney, Epcot, Florida
Theme parks, movies, merchandise and yes, marathons. Over an action packed weekend, from January 7-11, participants big and small can take part in everything from runDisney Kids Races and the Dopey Challenge to a full on traditional marathon, consisting of 26.2miles and a course that runs through Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot.
Honolulu Marathon, Hawaii
Honolulu is home to more than just surfer dudes. Every year on Dec 7 locals and visitors alike get ready to pound past some of Honolulu’s famous monuments, finishing near the volcanic crater near Kapiolani Park. In true Hawaiian style, all competitors get a lei when they cross the finish line.
Melbourne Marathon Festival, Victoria
On the 12th October, Melbourne CBD and surrounds becomes the course for a full and half marathon, along with 10km, 5km and 3km events. The finish line is the city’s famous MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) and you haven’t been to Melbourne if you haven’t been there!
The Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival, Port Douglas
Most of the year visitors to the Great Barrier Reef make a beeline for the ocean. On November 9th, Port Douglas sees an influx of tourists who will be staying on dry land. The Great Barrier Reef Marathon Festival has everything from kids runs to an Ultra Marathon (78km) for elite athletes.
TCS Amsterdam Marathon, Netherlands
On the 19th October Amsterdam will be overrun with runners from around the world. The best part about participating here is that the city is flat, so the times are fast, fast, fast. You’ll get to run through the historical city centre and the city’s famous Vondelpark along the way.
