Hobbiton was one of the primary movie sets created for the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings epics. Just ten kilometres from the farming town of Matamata, the set has become one of New Zealand’s star attractions and a major pilgrimage site for Hobbit botherers.
I tagged along with a group of travel specialists invited by Tourism New Zealand to experience the best things to do in the country. Bungy jumping, jet boat rides, white-water rafting—those were cheap thrills, I thought. How wrong I was.
I was part of a group of travel agents invited by Tourism New Zealand to experience North Island’s top attractions, like Taupo Bungy. By the time we’d reached the platform, our number had been reduced to one—me!
