Barnum Island Scuba Diving Holidays

I have stayed at this hotel Multiple times over the years when I come to New York City. It’s been over a year. Last I was there I had parking validation at the garage attached to the hotel and a security deposit was just a deposit. I aware that things change. How is it tat a hotel forces you to purchase items from them. The told Me I had to pay a 75$ deposit for possible incidentals. I was okay with that. Then they told they would be taking $27.21 from the deposit and gave me to complimentary tickets for either drinks or something from their snack bar. I did not want either and did not feel I should have been forced to do so. The 2.21, I am sure that the tax bureau never sees a cent of it. I have patronized your establishment and on top been forced to spend additional money. Anything else I spend should be optional.

Staff were polite and helpful. Room was adequate and hotel central to many visitor attractions. Check in and check out was speedy. Good selection for breakfast, only downside were queues for lifts at this time. Would’ve been nice to have a restaurant serving evening meals. Liked the coffee machine in the room, but felt paper cups inadequate for cost of rooms, and would’ve preferred proper mugs. Would I recommend this hotel - YES

We had an incredible stay at the Essex House last week with our two kids (one is 7 and the other turned 4 on our trip). We booked the king suite, thinking that even though it's NYC and the room will likely be small, it would be the best option for a family of 4. We were SHOCKED at the size of the suite! Not only was it enough room for all of us, it was downright roomy! We had plenty of space for our stay. The amenities and cleanliness of the hotel are superior, room service was delicious (if expensive), and best of all...the guest relations team sent a special surprise gift to our room for our 4 year olds birthday. They sent him balloons, two pieces of cake, and a bag full of stuffies and goodies. He was THRILLED and we were so touched by the thoughtfulness. Both of our kids have already asked if - not only can we go back to New York - but can we stay at the Essex House again! The location was incredible and overall the Essex House played a big part in how wonderful and effortless our trip was. Already looking at dates in the Spring to visit again!
