The building itself is truly impressive, with a sense of history and grandeur that makes a strong first impression. The location is also excellent, very convenient for exploring San Francisco.
That said, some areas of the hotel feel dated. The hallways in particular look old and have a harsh white lighting that feels more like a hospital than a luxury property.
The rooms have high ceilings and a good size, which is a plus, but the bathrooms are relatively small. The white lighting in the rooms also creates a very cold ambiance, which takes away from the overall comfort.
In general, much of the furniture throughout the hotel could benefit from a renovation.
Overall, it’s a beautiful historic property in a great location. With some thoughtful modernization that respects and blends with the hotel’s classic character, it could truly be exceptional.

What a fantastic hotel! I travelled to Maui with my husband and two children aged 5 & 8. Upton arrival the valet helped with our bags, gave the children and us gorgeous necklaces and check-in was quick! I didn’t like that the room we received was such a stretch to walk to so came back and the really helpful manager, despite being almost at full capacity moved us to a higher room category with a beautiful partial ocean view. Whilst we were there there was rain on and off but the hotel made sure the grounds were scrupulous. We were out exploring a lot but when in the hotel the children loved the soft beach, the pools (they must have gone on the slide 50 times) and making friends with other children. There were art classes on for the children and I got to try my hand at painting turtles and making glass art too! Room service was efficient and the rooms were turned down each day and left so neatly. I love that the Fairmont provide re-usable bottles for the guests vs plastic and there are ice and water dispensers all over the property. You can self park or valet- it’s refreshing that a resort doesn’t charge separate parking fees to self park vs the other four hotels we visited over this trip! I would recommend it fully for those with kids, and those wanting gorgeous suites with space! We would absolutely book here again! Thank you Fairmont your staff were so helpful and made our stay just perfect!

It was right next to the beach and shops. Only thing I didn’t like was that the hotel doing a lot of construction/ renovations so it didn’t look like the photos advertised.

The view from the balcony was incredible. In fact, all the views from every angle of this resort are breathtaking. The sunset view with the surfers is hard to explain. More than just a view, it's a moving moment. It is truly a visit to Paradise!

Room spacious and clean, very comfortable bed, nice robes to use, complimentary beach bag. Staff very helpful, able to book late check out at extra cost. Lovely beach, a bit crowded, pool and poolside quite busy. Easy access to shops and restaurants. Overall enjoyable stay.

The Andaz resort was absolutely beautiful. The views from the lobby and ocean viewcrooms was breathtaking! The staff was exceptionally attentive to our needs. We woyld highly recommend the Andaz resort. The rooms were clean & very spacious. Loved the shower.

My two sisters and I spent a couple nights at South Coast Winery in their great bungalow suites. They’re the perfect size for us and we love their location in the vines. SCW is walking distance to several wineries so that’s a plus too. The staff is super friendly and helpful.
