I could not fault the hotel staff very helpful. The hotel itself is very run down. The room we had was at the back of the hotel which was quite noisy some nights. The room itself has an a joining door only problem was the floor were not carpeted so it was musical chairs most night. They had old rugs down which was slip hazard. No plug in the sink so had to shave with tap running, Lack of towel rail in toilet the one was above the toilet itself. Shower had a lot of cracked tiles and the water leaked under the door. The only take about 5 people at a time if you have cases forget it. We went to breakfast once it was Chaotic and did not bother the rest of the time we stayed here.Riga is a beautiful city full of lovely people it is 10min walk to old town, train station is next door taking a trip to Jurmala is a must and puts U.K. trains too shame always on time. Bolt taxis are easy to order as well we went to the motor museum which is a must for old car lovers. Would I stay at Mercure again I might if they spend a few million on it and carpet every room.

The staff where very helpful. We asked for a heater for the room and one was supplied very quickly. On the morning of my depart the staff provided me and my wife with breakfast because we had a very early departing flight.

The hotel certainly has its charms, and the breakfast buffet was quite nice (as is the restaurant!), but the location should come equipped with sound-proofing. No earplugs or eye masks can prepare you for the all-night revelry on the street outside the front-facing rooms. The partying on the street below our room didn't quit until nearly 6am on a Saturday.

A great central location with nice rooms. Unfortunately, there is no lobby to sit in, and the bar allows smoking. I had a beer at the bar, but the cigar smoke was obnoxious so moved to the adjoining restaurant where I could still smell it. I mentioned this on checkout and was told that I should’ve checked before booking the hotel as it’s one of the two hotels in town that allow this. Perhaps the management should reconsider this. This would stop me from booking this hotel again.
