We really appreciated the historic value of this property. The story of the hotel is fascinating! The location was also central with easy walking access to cafes, restaurants, and the lakefront. The hotel staff were kind. We used Prince’s Gate as our launching point in Rotorua for three days to experience the volcanic areas of NZ. This included a sea plane flight with Volcanic Air, a visit to the free foot baths nearby the hotel, a drive to see Mt Doom in Tongariru National Park, and walks through wai o taupo and waimangu. The Prince’s Gate served as a good centralized location. We also appreciates the free parking right around the corner from the hotel.

Beautiful property and excellent service

The outside of the lodge is beautiful and well manicured but the rooms leave a lot to be desired. The beds are incredibly hard and uncomfortable, and the sheets are super hard and almost made of plastic. The shower in our room had mold and there was no antibacterial soap in the bathrooms. The towels are cheap and it was honestly disappointing considering that upon check in the man who works there said we got a “good price” because they just renovated. I expected luxury and it was honestly very average. The breakfast was decent and the views are great. It’s not worth the “good price” (already insanely expensive) in my opinion. There are other resorts around there that have better amenities and nicer rooms for a similar price.
