Lovely stay - food exceptionally good as was the service.
Fresh flowers in bedroom and homemade shortbread in room every day.
Beautiful scenic location
Exceptional. Angela and her team were very welcoming. Very personalised approach. They thought of everything including homemade short bread every day! The food was unbelievable - Michelin level - tasted amazing with beautiful presentation. Locally sourced. They remembered everyone’s dietary requirements and never missed a thing!
Beautifully kept historic house. Excellent friendly service. A pure pleasure to sit in the lounge and feel what it must have been like to be landed gentry 150 years ago. A lovely walk to be had around the extensive grounds.
Stephen and his team were charming and very welcoming. The hotel is set in beautiful grounds and the rooms and facilities are first class. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the finishing touches (fresh flowers, homemade shortbread and Adrian's liqueur left as a nightcap) were delightful. Breakfast (included in the cost of the room) is not to be missed. Would definitely recommend.
Quality of service is second to none with very fine dining restaurant. Old school with particular attention to detail and also dog friendly. Beautiful grounds in a special location.
Poor condition. We walked out. We had dogs with us but that's no excuse for accommodation like that. Bathroom was like something out of the 60s. May be the oldest hotel in England but due a refurb.
Overwater Hall is a small, quiet and VERY comfortable hotel.
Food is absolutely FABULOUS!
Staff are discreet and courteous.
You do need to drive to get to walks and or shopping but that is a small price to pay for staying at a top class hotel!
Great service, location, care for guests, phenomenal food. One of the best dinners I have ever had,. And the co-owner carried boih of our heavy bags up the steep stairs for us.
Myself and my wife had a lovely 2 night stay in Overwater Hall. The hotel is fabulous with excellent spacious rooms, very much a luxury experience. Steven looked after us very well throughout our stay. The hotel is remotely located but in an area of stunning beauty and only a short drive to Bassenthwaite Lake and the Lakes Distillery. The highlight of our stay was without doubt the food which was exceptional, Michelin star level in my opinion. Dinner each evening and breakfast in the morning was of the highest standard. I would highly recommend Overwater Hall for any couple looking for a nice relaxing break with amazing food in a beautiful area of the Lake District.
A traditional country house style hotel. Very comfortable lounges and bar. Nice dining room. Our bedroom was traditionally decorated. The bathroom was enormous and lovely. The bed was a Queen size and comfortable. There were nice extras such as a homemade fruit liqueur night cap, fresh fruit and dressing gowns in the room. The evening meal (£50 for 5 courses) was some of best food we’ve had in a long while. It was imaginative and perfectly cooked. The breakfasts were good except when I got some prunes and figs in syrup that hadn’t been pre-soaked - but if that’s all I can complain about then the stay certainly wasn’t bad!!
Lovely walking country.
My partner referred to the hotel as 'luxury accomodation' for the elderly. At mid-30s we were the youngest guests by at least 30 years. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and the rooms are very dated and tired. The food was good, dinner and breakfast was great.
The hotel is pet friendly and I managed to get dog poo on my hand from the front door handle on the way out one day...not the most pleasant experience.
Service and price was fair. If you are over 60 and don't mind a drive to the lakes (45 minutes) then it would be fine.
Fantastic personalised service in a wonderful away
Fantastic personalised service in a wonderful away from it all location. Overwater Hall is a wonderful boutique hotel made special by the personalised service that Stephen and Angela provide. We are vegetarian, and they went out of their way to make really nice dinners for us. The property is beautiful, quiet and located on extensive grounds - but not too far away from Keswick and the Northern lakes.
The only downside is that mobile networks don't work there, and wifi is slow as well - which makes keeping up with work while on vacation impossible. But that is perhaps the idea.
Overwater Hall is about 7 miles outside Keswick. We know the area well so knew what to expect, but be aware that it takes a good 15 minutes to do those 7 miles. Our Standard room was a good size with a large en-suite and 2 very comfortable armchairs from which to enjoy the views of the gardens. On our first night, there was fruit, bottled water, shortbread and even a fruit liqueur. The water and shortbread was replaced for our second night but, sadly, not the liqueur. The breakfast was excellent but we didn't have the evening meal, partly because it was £48 per head, but mainly because none of my holiday clothes were smart enough for the formal dining.
We visited Bowness on the way to Keswick and Grasmere on the way back, spending the time in between in Keswick. We hadn't been to Keswick for about 20 years and we were amazed by the 'new' (finished in 1999) Theatre By The Lake. We saw Dial M For Murder in the Main House and it was excellent.
We were welcomed to a lovely Country Estate , complealty comfortable ! After we settled in we for a beautiful walk threw the surrounding farms and fields.
After our walk we readied for dinner . We met the other guests for cocktails in the lounge/library very pleasant . We were called for dinner and enjoyed a five star meal . ( food on a scale of 1 to 10 , 12 +)
On of the top destinations of our two week driving threw England & Scotland.
It was a pleasurable stay from the door being opened and being welcomed with a smile until the moment we were waved off. Room was spacious and beautifully decorated. Drawing room was perfect for relaxing and the food in the dining room exquisite. Set in open countryside this hotel is perfect for a relaxing get away stay.
My wife and I stayed for just one night in a room with a mountain view. The room was decorated in a traditional country house fashion and was very clean and comfortable. We were welcomed upon our arrival by the owner who was attentive throughout our stay, as was all the staff. At first, there was an over-abundance of deference and I really wanted the staff to 'unbutton' a bit and let their own personalities shine through. Eventually, they relaxed as they got to know us and we all got on fine. We ate in the restaurant and the food was really excellent. There was a fixed price menu at £45 pp; however, the selections on the menu were wide enough to suit any palate, and every course (there were 4) was cooked to perfection. The hotel itself is situated in 18 acres of beautiful grounds and has stunning views to the mountains. It is hidden away from the busier routes and, if you're looking for a quiet getaway with high standards and excellent food, I would recommend giving this a try.
