7.8 out of 10, Good, (107 reviews)
"First of all - we paid double via Expedia compared to the couple in front of me (which paid to the hotel directly). Two things about the hotel we liked: breakfast and the pool. The lady that “welcomed” us at the reception was pretty unfriendly; the hotel was really rundown (starts with a dirty carpet when you walk inside from the parking lot, the balcony floor was horrible condition). And worst: the checkout time ist 10:00h am!!!! The same time the pool opens - I can't imagine any worse customer...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Wichmar?
The best area to stay in Wichmar is within the village itself or in the immediately surrounding countryside, particularly for those seeking a tranquil retreat or a base for exploring the Saale-Unstrut region.

Wichmar is a small, quiet village, ideal for travellers looking for a peaceful escape. It's characterised by traditional Thuringian architecture, with many guesthouses and holiday flats offering a comfortable stay. The village is surrounded by rolling hills and vineyards, providing direct access to walking and cycling paths along the Saale River. You'll find a few local inns serving regional cuisine.

Couples often find Wichmar particularly appealing for a romantic getaway. The serene environment, opportunities for scenic walks through vineyards, and local wine-tasting experiences create a relaxed and intimate setting. Staying in a guesthouse within the village allows for easy access to these activities and a taste of local life.

For those interested in exploring the wider Saale-Unstrut wine region, staying just outside Wichmar in a countryside accommodation can be an excellent option. These often provide more space and direct access to nature, while still being a short drive from the village's amenities and the well-known vineyards of the region.
When is the best time to go to Wichmar?
The best time to go to Wichmar is during the late spring, from May to June, or in the early autumn, from September to October.

These months offer pleasant weather conditions, with comfortable temperatures ideal for exploring the region's outdoor attractions and cultural sites. You'll generally find less rain and more sunshine compared to other times of the year, making it superb for enjoying the countryside and historical towns nearby.

For those who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking or cycling along the Saale River, May and June are particularly good as the landscape is lush and green. The days are long, giving you ample time to explore without feeling rushed.

If you prefer cooler temperatures and colourful foliage, September and October are splendid. This period is also excellent for enjoying local produce and wines from the region, as it often coincides with harvest festivals in nearby villages.
