One of the most popular destinations on the North Yorkshire coast is the busy working harbour of Whitby, 3 miles away, famous for its connections with the fictional character, Dracula, where the author Bram Stoker is said to have found his inspiration for the book from the abbey at Whitby.
Whitby has held several Goth weekends which are extremely popular, even with international guests. The quaint cobbled street with very interesting, independent shops to browse, leads to the 199 steps up to the abbey. Quite often you will catch the people counting them on their way to the top from where you have the spectacular abbey standing proud on the headland. Its original use in the 7th century was a Christian abbey that later became a Benedictine abbey.
The walks along the rugged clifftop form part of the 109-mile Cleveland Way Trail, and for those of you who love the great outdoors, there are fantastic walks along the clifftops to Robin Hood’s Bay and Ravenscar. If you prefer a more leisurely walk, there’s the old ’cinder track’ along the former railway line between Whitby and Scarborough, and this makes a great cycle route or a flat walking area.
The North York Moors railway runs from Whitby to Pickering, travelling across the moors on a beautiful steam train, stopping off at Goathland, the fictional village of Aidensfield in the TV programme, ’Heartbeat’. Beach 3 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant ½ mile.
Free WiFi

This was our 2nd stay here, it’s in a lovely location with lovely gardens, a short drive to Whitby & a local pub within walking distance.Slight Improvements could be made with a larger TV & addressing the sofa as the seating is quite flat.Having said that I would definitely recommend as the apartment has everything you need.

The only criticism would be that the water pressure in the shower was a bit too high.
The only criticism would be that the water pressure in the shower was a bit too high. The apartment was fitted out to a very high standard, the garden and the view were beautiful and the local amenities i.e. the Beacon farm ice cream. and the local pubs were excellent.

We have had such a lovely time.
We have had such a lovely time. The apartment was beautiful, decor lovely. Everything was immaculate. Standard of cleanliness was excellent. Met the housekeepers (Julie & Wendy who were delightful) and the Owners who were lovely. Would definitely visit again and the 'bonus' weather was great.

Although well equipped and attractive it felt and smelt damp.
Although well equipped and attractive it felt and smelt damp. There were 4 steps up to it which were steep so getting cases along the gravel path and up steps were difficult. Reported problems Tuesday which were not dealt with till Thursday by the owner. Might be good for walkers but if you had to use a car you were a few miles from shops and park and ride

A lovely, clean apartment with everything you would need.
A lovely, clean apartment with everything you would need. Dishwasher probably more useful than washing machine but that's just our opinion. Lovely views from the apartment garden and handy pub, Wilson's Arms nearby serving excellent food.
