About this property

3 Bed in Grosmont (oc-wa060)

  • This cosy cottage for five is situated in the centre of the pretty village of Grosmont, at the heart of the picturesque North York Moors, yet only 7 miles to the coast. The cottage offers great views of the Grosmont Station and the passing steam trains. Enjoy dinner by the warmth of the wood burner or head outside to the patio and spark up the BBQ.

Enter from the patio and come into the kitchen. This galley-style space has everything needed to cook up delicious Yorkshire meals which can be enjoyed in the dining room next to the wood burner. There’s also a utility cupboard under the stairs here. Settle down in the lounge after dinner and rest on either of the three-seater sofas and watch a DVD on the TV or watch the steam trains go by. The first floor houses all the bedrooms comprising two doubles (one has limited access to one side of the bed) and a bunk bed. All three rooms share the family bathroom and there is a separate WC. Outside, the enclosed patio has bench seating and a BBQ, perfect for al fresco dinners.

Grosmont is a popular tourist destination, famous for its heritage line with connections to Whitby (7 miles) and Pickering (17 miles) and the beautiful main Esk Valley railway line between Middlesbrough and Whitby. There are also various independent shops in Grosmont where you can pick up a souvenir or gift and even an art gallery where you can admire the work of local Yorkshire artists such as Robert Brindley and Ailsa Nicholson. The North York Moors National Park offers fantastic opportunities for walking and cycling, and the historic town of Whitby has a beautiful sandy beach and many tourist attractions, such as Whitby Abbey, the 199 steps, the Church of St Mary, Whitby Swing Bridge and a great choice of boutique shops, tearooms and restaurants.

Location is good. Having to wait until 1900 to gain access is unacceptable and informed rudely of inflexiblity.

Superb Cottage for a relaxing stay

I booked this cottage for a special birthday treat for my partner who is a steam train enthusiast. The cottage was perfect, very clean, nicely decorated and well equipped with everything we needed. The station, pub and shop are all literally just a few yards away from the house. It was just before Christmas when we went and the lovely Christmas tree was a special bonus and we spent cosy evenings in with the log fire burning. Our dog enjoyed it too, there are some nice walks from there. Also Whitby is only 10 minutes away in the car. We would certainly like to come again.

8/10 Good

Spotless place, lots of steam train stuff outside the lounge window, great pub 50.25 footsteps away

Beutifull hamlet of grosmont is literally on the doorstep with the NYMR station is just accross the level crossing. the activity from the steam trains, that goes on throughout the day, is very interesting without being intrusive. We had a really fantastic week here and rode on the trains only twice as the activity on the station was entertainment enough. Highly recommended if you like steam heritage railways and the beutiful countryside of the York moors.. We thought that parking was going to be a problem but most days we parked outside the cottage on a single yellow line thats only active 10AM to 4PM

2/10 Terrible

Wouldn’t stay there again.

We just arrived from a 21 hour flight from Tasmania,Australia. On arriving at the house we had no hot water, we rang the office and a guy came around and tried to fix the problem. Still didn’t have any hot water the next morning, so the hole two days we were there we couldn’t shower. Sent the office several emails regarding the issue, but still haven’t heard back 4 days later, so it’s quite obvious they are not interested in the matter.
