West Kill Barnhouse: Ski, Work & Unwind
* Door-to-door 10-20 mins to skiing. * Unobstructed mountain views!
Escape to the "Winter Wonderland" of West Kill. Whether you are chasing fresh powder at Belleayre, seeking a silent retreat from the city, or looking for the ultimate remote-work backdrop, our renovated barn is your cozy basecamp.
Tucked away from the road for total peace, yet just minutes from the legendary West Kill Brewing and major ski resorts, we offer the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern convenience.
The space Step inside a 100-year-old barn reimagined for modern comfort. We know what matters after a long drive or a cold day outside:
- For the Winter Adventurers: Located perfectly between Hunter Mountain and Belleayre Mountain (approx. 20 mins), we are the ideal ski basecamp. Our heating system is powerful and fast—the barn warms up in minutes so you can thaw out instantly after the slopes.
Insider Tip: Ask us about our Sunday late check-out options to squeeze in one last half-day of skiing!
- For the "Work from Wilderness" Nomads: Why work from an office when you can work with a mountain view? We offer high-speed Wi-Fi that handles Zoom calls with ease, plus designated workspaces.
Mid-Week Perk: We love long-term stays! The kitchen is fully stocked for full-week meal prep, and the silence here is unmatched for deep focus.
- For the Friends & Foodies: We are just down the road from West Kill Supply (brewery and food trucks) and the Spruceton Inn. The open-concept living area features a foosball table and plenty of seating, making it perfect for game nights and reconnecting.
Getting Around: We can recommend reliable local taxi services so your group can enjoy the local brews safely.
- For Families & Nature Lovers: The barn is set back on a large, private lot safe for kids and pets to explore. Across the street, you’ll find trails, a fox den under the old church, and endless nature. Inside, the layout allows parents to relax downstairs while kids enjoy the loft area.
Family Value: No need to pack entertainment—between the smart TV, foosball, and outdoor space, we’ve got you covered.
The Cozy Details:
Master Bedroom: Queen bed, spacious and warm.
Second Bedroom: Double bed, cozy and quiet.
Third Bedroom: Twin bed, perfect for a child or solo friend.
Kitchen: Fully equipped (just bring your pancake griddle!) with a coffee bar to start your mornings right.
Pet Friendly: We welcome your furry friends (fee applies). The yard is massive and perfect for snowy romps.
Guest access You will have the entire barn and the surrounding grounds to yourself. Keyless entry makes check-in a breeze, no matter what time you arrive.
Other things to note We are located in the heart of the Catskills. While we have great Wi-Fi, cell service can be spotty in the mountains—we recommend downloading offline maps before you head up! Guest access * You will have exclusive access to the entire house * Extremely private backyard * Shared driveway Other things to note Come and enjoy the peace and quiet of this country retreat. This is a perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether you are looking for a weekend retreat or a place to call home for an extended period of time, this property is just what you are looking for.
This rustic barnhouse has been completely renovated with all the modern amenities that you need, while still keeping its original 18th century hand-hewn beams. The full kitchen comes equipped with everything you need to cook your favorite meal, including a dishwasher, washer/dryer combo unit, microwave oven, fridge, stovetop oven with four burners and an oven grill, and even a toaster!
But the best part of this property has got to be the back door that opens up onto an unobstructed view of Mount Sherrill. Whether you are looking for a weekend getaway or a place to call home full time, this rustic barnhouse is just what you are looking for!

We loved our stay at this adorable rental. We were so comfortable and loved having the kitchen to make our big morning breakfast. We had a fire in the yard, it was so relaxing. We drove a little way away and went fly fishing. The Mountain Views are amazing.
Amazing times had while we were maxin’ and relaxin’ between sight seeing.
Loved having the creature comforts of the city (laundry, tv, wifi) without cellular service.
It was nice to partially disconnect.
We will stay with Irene again! No doubt.
My daughter and I had another great stay at Irene's digs. Over the holidays, we took our dogs on some relaxing walks, had a delicious Thanksgiving dinner at nearby Peekamoose Restaraunt, and were awed by the snow-dusted mountains that surrounded us. Thank you again!
Irene was a great hostess and very informative with historical areas to explore. The house/barn was clean and everything was just as advertised. Even though it rained, there were long enough breaks where we could go hiking and even BBQ one night. Make sure to check out all the streams/creeks after a rainfall…beautiful with the rushing waters. I would go back again to explore the area more.
We had an excellent time staying at Irene's place. Clean, quiet, and well situated, we'll be be back. There was lots to do in the vicinity. We visited the Farmer's Market in Lexington on the weekend and brought home foods to make a feast. Also, ate out at a nearby excellent restaurant, hiked the considerable trails, and most importantly, found some time to fish the fly on the right-there West Kill creek. Awesome.
Our stay at Irene's place was cozy and very appreciated! The place was very clean and comfortable. It was easy to get to and not far from ski mountains and the town of Phoenicia. There was a full sized oven to cook on which is good for those who are interested in cooking their meals. There is also a dishwasher and washer/dryer combo. Both great when you are planning on staying longer than a weekend. Irene was very responsive and helpful with any questions we had and even was flexible about our earlier arrival due to some snowy weather. Like another person commented, there is some road construction right now making the journey to Hunter a little longer, but overall if the weather is fine, there is still an easy route over the mountain. I highly recommend this charming little house and look forward to booking it again for my family!
Our family of four had a wonderful stay. The house was warm and cozy and we loved every minute. Our two children loved the foosball table and the fun magnetic dart board. We had a great day of skiing at Belleayre mountain. The recommended dining at Peek A Moose and Chicken Run were spot on. We will definitely be back. Thank you!
We enjoyed our stay! The house was warm, clean and fun. Our son played the guitar and both kids loved playing foosball and watching Netflix. The beds were comfortable too. We loved that the hosts provided coffee for us to enjoy—very thoughtful! The ride to Hunter Mountain was a little farther than expected because of roadwork, but a fresh coat of snow made it worth it. We would enjoy visiting again.

Irene couldn't have been a better host. Communication - from the outset - was concise and accurate. She even found a way to accommodate my daughter's early arrival. The converted barn was unique and reflective of my New England roots. (the spiral staircase to the upper sleeping loft reflects a mystery writers room... I parked there for the week).
More important, and given the times we live in, the property was immaculately clean. Never a worry about Covid issues. Further, the kitchen was sufficiently equipped for us to prepare our rather elaborate Thanksgiving dinner. Nice to have a large, new dishwasher for the clean-up).
While I'm pretty familiar with the area, we were greeted with a guidebook-like description of area attractions and graded hiking trails.
For anyone planning to ski Hunter or rt. 28 area slopes this is an outstanding home base. We'll be back in the future.
