About this property

Capitol Hill Townhouse Sleeps 6, 2 Blocks to Metro and Eastern Market

  • Made for families and friends of up to 6 who want a whole Capitol Hill townhouse near the Metro.
3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths, sleeps 6. Crib available, full kitchen, in-unit washer and dryer.
Eastern Market Metro 2 blocks; Barracks Row about 5 minutes on foot; Marine Barracks about 6 to 8; the Navy Yard about 25; the Library of Congress about 18.
Sorry, no pets (service animals welcome).

Made for families and groups who want to see DC on foot. The Capitol Saunter Townhouse is the upper two floors of an 1890s Federal-style rowhouse on Capitol Hill: 1,466 sq ft, 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6, with a family room, dining room and piano room plus a full kitchen. Eastern Market Metro is 2 blocks away, Barracks Row a 5-min walk, the Capitol about 20 min on foot. Save it for your DC trip.

    THE SPACE
The top two floors of a gray 1890s Federal-style rowhouse on Capitol Hill, 1,466 sq ft and all yours. Climb the wrought-iron stairs to your own red front door: living, dining, kitchen and a piano room on the main floor, three bedrooms and the full bath upstairs. Walk Score 98, so most guests park the car and leave it.

    Where you'll sleep (sleeps 6)
    - Primary bedroom: queen bed and a smart TV with Roku
    - Second bedroom: queen bed
    - Third bedroom: double bed
    - Blackout shades, bedside charging, a full-length mirror, extra pillows and blankets, and two sets of linens per bed
    - Full bathroom upstairs with a stand-up shower; half bath on the main floor
    - Pack 'n play available for the little ones

    The kitchen & dining
A fully stocked kitchen: oven and stove, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, blender, drip coffee maker and an electric kettle with tea. Cookware, knives and cutting boards, cooking basics, dishes and wine glasses for everyone, plus starter supplies so you're not shopping on night one. Trader Joe's and Safeway are a short walk. A separate dining room seats the whole group.

    Living & entertainment
A big family room with a Roku smart TV and a Bluetooth speaker, and a piano room for slow evenings in. Board games and books are on the shelves.

    Laundry
Washer and dryer in the unit, with detergent to get you started. Iron and ironing board.

    Comfort
Wi-Fi throughout, forced-air heat and A/C, and fans for warm nights. Cleaning supplies and a vacuum are on hand for longer stays.

    An 1890s home
Real character comes with real quirks: steep interior stairs to the bedrooms, older floors that creak, and not every window has a screen. It's a wonderful house for families who walk everywhere, and we want you to know what to expect.

    NEARBY (walk times approximate)
    - Eastern Market Metro (Blue, Orange & Silver): 2 blocks
    - Eastern Market (historic market; weekend flea & farmers' market): about 8 min
    - Barracks Row, Capitol Hill's main street of restaurants and shops: about 5 min
    - Marine Barracks Washington (Friday evening parades in summer): about 6 min
    - Washington Navy Yard: about 25 min
    - Library of Congress: about 18 min
    - US Capitol & Supreme Court: about 20 min
    - National Mall & Smithsonian museums: 20 to 30 min
    - Nationals Park & The Yards Park: 20 to 30 min
    - Trader Joe's, Yes! Organic Market and Safeway: within a few blocks

    GUEST ACCESS
The upper two floors are yours: family room, dining room, piano room, kitchen, half bath and laundry on the main floor; three bedrooms and the full bath upstairs. Your entrance is the red door at the top of the wrought-iron stairs, with self check-in by keypad code, so arrive on your schedule after 4 PM.

The garden-level apartment below is a separate rental with its own entrance and courtyard. Owner storage closets aren't part of the stay.

Bringing a car? Message us at least 48 hours before arrival and we'll tell you the current street parking options. Most guests arrive by Metro.

    GETTING AROUND
You won't need a car. Eastern Market Metro (Blue, Orange & Silver) is 2 blocks away, and a Capital Bikeshare dock is 1 block away.
From DCA (Reagan): Blue line straight to Eastern Market, no transfer. Your door is 2 blocks away.
From IAD (Dulles): Silver line straight to Eastern Market, no transfer.
From Union Station (Amtrak, MARC): about a 10-minute rideshare.
Driving in? Without a DC residential permit, street parking on most nearby blocks is limited to 2 hours, 7 AM to 8:30 PM on weekdays; the posted sign governs. Message us 48 hours ahead and we'll tell you the current visitor parking options.

    THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Capitol Hill is DC's classic rowhouse neighborhood: tree-lined streets of 19th-century homes a few blocks from the Capitol dome. You're between Eastern Market and Barracks Row, so coffee, bakeries, 30+ restaurants and weekend markets are all on foot, and families walk to the playgrounds at Lincoln Park. It's a real residential street that goes quiet at night.
