Pousada Convento De Belmonte

10/10 Excellent

"The interior design fit the restored convent spirit."

Abrigo da Montanha Hotel Rural & Spa

10/10 Excellent

"Fantastic facilities for kids and adults. Lovely apartment and incredible views. I would definitely go back."

Sport Hotel Gym + SPA

10/10 Excellent

"The room was very clean, modern with perfect air conditioning. There was a mini fridge where I kept yogurt and fruit. The lobby had snacks,a coffee machine with many choices and frozen meals which could be warmed up in the microwave downstairs. The included breakfast was out of this world. I will be returning and highly recommend this hotel."

Vila Galé Collection Serra da Estrela Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Hotel is beautifully situated. Great view from our room! Staff are very attentive and helpful. Restaurant à la carte meals were excellent and one evening buffet was fairly good as well. Breakfasts were great. One wish is that there would have been a 24 hour lobby coffee bar to get early morning coffee (or a machine in the room). Staff in the breakfast room were very accommodating, but only available after 8am when the restaurant opened."

Hotel Mira Serra

8/10 Good

"This was a great choice for a stop-over on our travels from the ferry in Santander to our destination, near Obidos in Western Portugal. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The room was clean and perfect for our stay, as well as being dog-friendly. The park opposite provided a convenient dog walking area. The evening set meal was served in the bar area, rather than the restaurant, which was fine. The food was good, and excellent value, and the house wine was delightful. In all, this was a perfect choice and we shall use this hotel on our return journeys."

Casa de São Lourenço - Burel Panorama Hotel - Member of Relais & Châteaux.

10/10 Excellent

"Staff were excellent at the front desk, gave us a welcome drink and a full tour of the facilites. Restaurant staff could use some training and a better process for servicing the tables. Hotel is clean, quiet and secure. Pool area with sauna and Turkish bath is very nice."

What is the best area to stay in Vela?

The best area to stay in Vela is the historical centre, particularly around the Praça do Município. This area is the heart of Vela, characterised by its historic stone buildings, narrow cobbled streets, and a relaxed pace of life. The Praça do Município is a central point, often featuring local markets and community events. You'll find many of Vela's traditional restaurants and small shops within easy walking distance. For couples, staying in the historical centre offers a romantic and authentic experience. When is the best time to go to Vela?

The best time to go to Vela, Guarda District, is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.During these periods, the weather is pleasantly mild, with fewer crowds than in the peak summer months. The landscapes are particularly beautiful in spring with wildflowers blooming, and in autumn with the changing colours of the leaves.Couples looking for a peaceful escape will appreciate the tranquillity of Vela during these shoulder seasons. You can enjoy long walks or bike rides through the countryside, visit local vineyards, and experience the traditional Portuguese way of life at a relaxed pace. The cooler temperatures are also superb for hiking to the highest point of mainland Portugal, Torre, offering breathtaking views without the summer haze. For those who enjoy outdoor activities and cultural exploration, these months provide the optimal conditions.
