Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Valaste?
The best area to stay in Valaste, Ida, Estonia, is generally in the nearby town of Kohtla-Järve, as Valaste itself is quite small and primarily known for its waterfall.

Kohtla-Järve offers the most comprehensive selection of accommodation and amenities for visitors to the Valaste Waterfall. The town centre, particularly around the Ahtme district, provides a range of hotels and guesthouses. You'll find local shops, restaurants, and essential services here, making it a convenient base for exploring the region.

For couples looking for a relaxing stay with easy access to the natural beauty of the area, staying in a guesthouse or a smaller hotel just outside the Kohtla-Järve centre, perhaps closer to the coastal road (Route 1), can be a good option. These often provide a more tranquil setting while still being a short drive from the Valaste Waterfall and other East Viru County attractions.

Families will find Kohtla-Järve's central areas practical due to the availability of larger rooms or apartments, and proximity to local parks and eateries.
When is the best time to go to Valaste?
The best time to go to Valaste is during the warmer months, specifically from late spring to early autumn (May to September), when the weather is most pleasant for exploring the outdoors.

During these months, you'll experience comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for visiting the Valaste Waterfall and enjoying the surrounding nature trails. The days are also longer, providing more daylight hours for sightseeing and outdoor activities. This period is great for couples and families looking to enjoy nature without the chill of winter.

For those interested in seeing the waterfall at its most powerful, early spring after the snowmelt or after significant rainfall can be spectacular. However, be prepared for cooler temperatures and potentially muddier trails.
