"The owners spoke English and helped us with anything we needed. They also helped us to a free meal one of the nights. This camp is right at the entrance of Humanatay lake and is right along the Salkantay path. Also to be noted there was HOT water and excellent shower pressure. Probably our best stay along the way!!!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Uratari?
The best area to stay in Uratari, for an authentic and tranquil experience, is within the village itself or in the immediate surroundings of the Sacred Valley.

Staying directly in Uratari offers a unique opportunity to connect with the local community and experience Andean culture first-hand. This small village is located in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, surrounded by terraced fields and stunning mountain views. You'll find a few guesthouses and homestays here, offering a more personal and less touristy stay compared to larger towns. It's an excellent choice for couples or solo travellers seeking a peaceful retreat and a deeper understanding of local life.

For those who prefer a slightly more developed setting while still being close to Uratari's charm, staying in one of the nearby towns like Urubamba or Ollantaytambo offers more amenities. Urubamba, for example, has a wider selection of hotels, restaurants, and shops, and is just a short drive from Uratari. It's a convenient base for exploring the Sacred Valley, including the Pisac market and the Ollantaytambo ruins, and offers easier access for day trips further afield.
When is the best time to go to Uratari?
The best time to go to Uratari is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.

During these months, you'll experience clear skies and plenty of sunshine, making it ideal for exploring the region's outdoor attractions. The daytime temperatures are pleasant, typically ranging from 20-25°C, though evenings can be cool. This period is great for hiking, visiting archaeological sites, and enjoying the stunning Andean scenery without the interruption of heavy rain.

Couples looking for a romantic and adventurous trip will find this season particularly appealing. The dry conditions allow for comfortable treks to sites like the Inca Trail or Machu Picchu, and the sunny weather makes for excellent photography opportunities. It's also a great time for enjoying outdoor dining and the vibrant local culture.

Families travelling with children will also benefit from the dry season. The stable weather means less chance of disruptions to plans, and the comfortable temperatures are well-suited for outdoor activities that children enjoy.
