Kurokawa Onsen Oyado Noshiyu
3.5 star property
9.6 out of 10, Exceptional, (186)
"A beautiful inn in the heart of Kurokawa Onsen, just steps away from the shops and the Information Center. The grounds are beautifully appointed, and the selection of private chartered baths is wonderful. The public baths are spacious and comfortable. The atmosphere is quiet and elegant, so if you are looking for something more casual this may not be the place for you; but if you want a luxury experience this is it."

"The private onsens are free and fantastic, outdoor affairs with a view to the surrounding forest. The public onsen is quite simple, nothing exciting. Dinner is unbelievably huge and diverse (OMG!), breakfast is fantastic too. Staff is amazingly polite and helpful, rooms are beautiful and comfortable (a minibar fridge would be the perfect final touch)"

Kurokawa Onsen Yamabiko Ryokan
3.5 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (131)
"We had a wonderful stay. The atmosphere, food, staff, and hospitality are amazing. We loved the onsen available on site, but also managed to visit other onsen in town (you can get an onsen hopping pass from the town visitor center). Overall very tranquil and relaxing. One thing to note is that the pillows can be small and you may need to ask for larger or additional pillows. Highly recommend and would visit again. "

Kujukogen Ginga no Yado Kinoko IIseigo

Kurokawa Onsen Yumerindo Hanadomari
3.0 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (106)
"First time staying in a Ryokan and to our surprise, they send us to the “annex” which was not as nice as the main building of the hotel. We did have a spacious western style room and our small private bathtub. We didn’t really get to experience staying at a Ryokan since we were in a building its rooms and no baths. The space was ok. Needs a bit of upkeep."

Fairfield By Marriott Kumamoto Aso
3.5 star property
9.4 out of 10, Exceptional, (29)
"Very modern and western style - very comfortable. Next door to onsens and a super little grocery store/community centre with visitor information desk and an area to eat. It's a small point but the in-room bathroom does not offer hair conditioner (and conditioning shampoo is not an effective alternative). In such a nice hotel, why cut this corner???"

Kurokawa, Mori no Cottage
3.0 star property
9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (30)
"Very clean and very comfortable. They are very vague about you putting everything back. Does it mean you have to wash all of your dishes and put them back exactly? Communication was lacking. Of the two emails I sent, I never got a response. I left some stuff there and asked if it was found and they decided not to answer me. I ended up leaving it there so I suppose someone else is not enjoying it."

Kurokawa Onsen Ryokan Ichinoi
3.0 star property
9.2 out of 10, Wonderful, (324)
"The photos don't do this ryokan justice. We had a semi-western room and it was very large (even compared to other ryokans) - so big it even has a little corridor. Room and overall facilities were quite modern. Dinner and breakfast was excellent. Private onsens require booking and a 1000JPY fee which is ok but half board for my 2 year old child at 5500JPY was quite steep considering what they served (and options are limited given the amount of raw food for dinner).
