The best area to stay in Tzitzifés is within the village itself, particularly around the main square and along the few main streets that wind through it.

This small, traditional village is located in the foothills of the White Mountains, offering a tranquil escape. The central area is characterised by its stone houses, narrow lanes, and the historic church of Agios Nikolaos. There are a handful of local tavernas and a mini-market within easy walking distance.

Couples seeking a peaceful retreat will find Tzitzifés ideal. It's a place to enjoy long walks in the surrounding olive groves, savour traditional Cretan food, and experience a slower pace of life. The village is also a good base for exploring the nearby countryside and the Askifou plateau.

For those travelling with family, staying within the village centre offers convenience. Children can enjoy the open spaces around the square, and the lack of heavy traffic makes it a relaxed environment.

The best time to go to Tzitzifés is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October.

These months offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures superb for exploring the Cretan countryside without the intense heat of mid-summer. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing for a more relaxed experience at local tavernas and attractions. The sea temperatures are also very comfortable for swimming during these periods.

For those looking for a quiet escape, October is particularly appealing. The olive harvest often begins then, offering a unique opportunity to see traditional Cretan life in action. The landscape remains green, and the occasional light rain shower adds to the freshness of the air.
