WINTER AT THE CABIN

This is a ski cabin that happens to be great in summer, not the other way around. Northstar is [12] minutes, Palisades Tahoe [20], Sugar Bowl [20], and the 2-car garage means you park inside, hang the wet gear, and never scrape a windshield. Come home to a wood-burning fireplace with the firewood already stacked, an 8-person hot tub big enough for the whole group, and a barrel sauna to finish the night. Ten people fit here, and on storm days the arcade, the Mahjong table and the TVs keep everyone happy while the snow piles up. The fenced yard becomes the snowman-and-snowball zone for kids and dogs. Stock the fridge on the way in when a big storm is forecast, and let the mountain do its thing.

By Car – The Easiest Way to Explore. With a 2-car garage and a newly paved driveway, parking is simple in every season. A personal vehicle is the most efficient way to reach Northstar, Palisades, Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Donner Lake, and other major attractions. During winter storms, a 4WD/AWD vehicle or tire chains are strongly recommended. Legacy Trail & Local Pathways. Guests love how close Sierra Meadows is to the Truckee River Legacy Trail—one of Truckee’s most scenic paved routes. It’s ideal for walking, jogging, and cycling, stretching from downtown Truckee to GlenShire along the river. It’s a great option for those who want to explore without getting in the car. Sawtooth Trail (Trail 06) Access. Just up the road, the Sawtooth Trailhead offers miles of singletrack and fire roads for hikers and mountain bikers. This well-known local trail network includes routes with views of the Sierra, and strong riders can even connect all the way to Tahoe City for a full backcountry adventure. Truckee is served by TART (Tahoe Truckee Area Regional Transit), a free public transit system that connects Truckee, Tahoe City, Kings Beach, Incline Village, and North Lake Tahoe. This is especially convenient for out-of-town guests who want to explore without driving. For ski days, the free Northstar Shuttle provides easy access to the resort and village, helping you avoid parking and mountain traffic. TART Connect is a free, app-based local ride service that operates within Truckee. With quick pickup times and point-to-point service, it’s an excellent option for getting to and from downtown restaurants, events, or nearby neighborhoods without needing your vehicle.

Security: For your safety and the security of the property, exterior security cameras are located on the premises. They are outward-facing and do not monitor any interior spaces or private outdoor areas like the hot tub.



WINTER: KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK



• Vehicle: Bring a 4WD or AWD vehicle with snow-rated tires and carry chains. We do not recommend 2WD cars in winter, especially in a big snow year. Chain controls on I-80 are routine during storms.



• Snow removal: The driveway is plowed [once every 24 hours whenever 4 inches or more falls]. Between plows, be prepared to shovel. The house is stocked with [shovels, a snow broom, ice scrapers and ice melt] for digging out vehicles and clearing the berm the town plow leaves at the end of the driveway. The 2-car garage is yours, so use it.



• Storm prep: If a big storm is forecast, buy groceries before you arrive. Roads can close or go to chain control, and the best storm plan is to be stocked, warm and in the hot tub.



• Fireplace: The wood-burning fireplace is the real thing. Firewood is provided; please keep the screen closed and never leave it burning unattended.



• Hot tub and sauna: Both run all winter. Quiet hours are [10 PM to 8 AM].

We’re longtime Truckee locals and are available daily from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM to answer questions, provide recommendations, and ensure everything in the home is working smoothly. We typically respond within 30 minutes during these hours. For emergencies, please contact 911. You’ll also have access to our TouchStay digital guide, which includes house instructions, local dining tips, activity ideas, and trail maps. We respect your privacy and won’t disturb your stay but will check in briefly to make sure you have everything you need.
