Wonderful accommodations in a perfect setting next to a roaring river! We enjoyed the restaurant, the grounds, our patio, and the nearby state park. The owners have done a great job thinking of everything a guest wants and needs in a home away from home.
The property is amazing and so nice to have the restaurant on site. Be sure to bring your groceries with you, or it is a drive into Elkin to get them!
Elkin is a lovely place to visit as well!
It’s a wonderful venue to enjoy drinking wine and not worry about driving country roads afterwards. Cozy suite with fire pit right outside back door and next to the appropriately named Roaring River. Full kitchen and propane grill makes it easy to eat in.
The riverside retreat was just right for our stay! Open the door and the sounds of the river drifts all your worries away.
The owner was very accommodating and helped make the stay so worth while.
This was a return stay for us at Roaring River and we stayed in the Birch Unit. Perfect location for a relaxing get away. We visited several wineries and enjoyed the sounds of the river. We ate at the restaurant and the food/wine/service was wonderful. The owners are very easy to work with and check-in/check-out was simple. Look forward to our next stay.
The accommodations were very comfortable and we enjoyed sitting on the patio listening to the river. We were disappointed with the menu selection in the dining room hoping for more dinner entrees. But for lunch it was fine. We drove into Elkin and purchased some groceries and cooked our own meals during our stay.
The cabin was very comfortable and the grounds are lovely.
We have always enjoyed the restaurant and being able to see the roaring river that is only a few yards away while eating great food. We finally got the chance to stay at the cabin/room and we had a blast. The roaring river was right there in the back of our room and we enjoyed it immensely. We also enjoyed the little fire pit that was a lot of fun. We also enjoyed the ambiance of the local communities. We will definitely come back.
We enjoyed the unique riverside location. It was fun to enjoy the sights & sounds of the river, and the property gives you many opportunities to do so. There is a lot to do without leaving the property. It's a little bit humid inside, even with the AC running, but I think that's to be expected when it's summertime and the river is so close. Overall, I would certainly recommend it as a fun place to relax and enjoy nature for a few days.
Total Tranquility - Undoubtedly, one of NC’s best kept secrets
The perfect place to unplug/disconnect, relax & rejuvenate! So grateful I stumbled upon this perfect getaway from the stressors of everyday life. The “Birch” cabin was cozy, charming, well-appointed and extremely clean…Everything we needed, plus!! The tranquility of the roaring river left us completely de-stressed. The food & wine at Chez Josephine was delightful…We dined on the covered deck overlooking the river & everything was delicious!
We honestly hated to leave, but we are already planning another trip this December. We look forward to the cooler weather to take advantage of the cabin’s fire pit and the community outdoor fireplace. I still cannot believe we have this incredible property practically in our backyard (just over an hour away). Thank you to the owners for providing us such a memorable experience!!
This was our second stay here after a few years. The property has a great spot with a restaurant terrace and lodging that overlooks the river. The restaurant has good food. The wine flight servings are abysmally small. The bottled wine is overpriced. The shared Aspen-Birch walls are too thin with loud neighbors. Lamps and other furnishings were dusty and had cobwebs. The shower curtain rod was rusty. Overall, spending time away in a beautiful location with access to nearby hikes overcame these little disappointments for an enjoyable weekend.
Overall a nice clean and relaxing place to stay. It is remote, so plan on 30 minutes plus drive to any other activity or restaurants.
The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant hours are limited (kitchen is11 to 5, bar is 11 to 6) If you prefer later mealtimes, be sure to pack your own food or be prepared for a 30 minute drive to the next nearest restaurant. The wine flite was good.
A few things needed attention.
1) The oven in our unit was not clean and smelled of burned pizza when we used it.
2) The air circulation in the unit was poor. When we were there, it was one of the hottest weekends on record and we has to purchase a small fan ti help circulate the air.
3) The hot tub needed attention. It appeared clean, but the water level was 6 to 8 inches too low.
4) The instructions for check out asked us to clean the grill, but the items that should have been supplied were not available in our unit.
Overall, we would still recommend this as a secluded getaway cottage.
We would still recommend this property
Great location at the winery next to the lovely creek, on site restaurant and lovely grounds. Convenient to Stone Mountain and the Blue Ridge Parkway, plus other wineries. The inside was nice though the HVAC wall unit was loud and right in the bedroom. Outside seating was a plus though a bit dusty. Very easy check-in and out.
Cozy, clean & convenient to local towns in the foothills of NC. Loved relaxing to the sounds of the Roaring River. We would definitely stay here again!

We really enjoyed our relaxing stay in the Brich Suite. Favorite part? Listening to the river while sitting on the patio.
After initial (2) concerns were quickly remedied, we had an excellent visit and stay. The location, right on the river and nice tasting / light food. Initially the hot tub was scalding hot, and too hot for entry. This was remedied. The bed mattress was excessively worn out and unsupportive. This was remedied by relocating us to another unit with acceptable mattress. All communications were prompt and our concerns addressed promptly. The property location is first rate spectacular. Close to Stone Mountain State Park. Thank you, Chance Smith, Elizabeth City, NC
