Take your time admiring its classical columned exterior as you wander around the grounds.
Approach the temple from the Agora. The walk up a small hill ends with a breathtaking view of the building, whose triangular roof is supported by a band of harmoniously ordered columns. Stroll around its base and enjoy some shade in a leafy park area. The impressive construct is about 32 metres (105 feet) long.
Climb the temple steps and get a glimpse of the decorative style of ancient Athens. The roof and marble colonnades remain intact, along with much of the interior. This incredible preservation was due to its continued use over the millennia as a Greek temple, a Christian church and, most recently, a museum.

On the side facing the Agora, a display of fine friezes depict the myth of Hercules and his 12 labours. Find the temple in the Roman Agora. From the Acropolis summit, spot the temple's shining white columns surrounded by trees. The Temple of Hephaestus site charges a small entry fee and is open daily until mid-afternoon. Get there by metro to Thiseio station or catch one of many bus routes that serve the area.
