"We had a very nice stay for two nights. Both pools are excellent, staff are very friendly, the room was clean and had modern amenities. Breakfast was excellent however, we had lunch at the hotel one day and it was only okay. There are a few monkeys around the property however, most never come into the actual hotel. For note, the hotel is based on top of a hill which is a very steep climb. While there is an outdoor lift for luggage and personal use, it does operate very slowly so the stairs are usually the quicker, but more straining option. From there it is a 10 minute walk into town which is convenient. But overall we had a very nice stay. "

"Once of the best stays while on vacation in Sri Lanka. Clean rooms, conveniently located and friendly staff. The food was amazing as well. They took good care of us from day one. I left my iPods in my room and didn’t even realize it until they called me after we checked out and left to let me know. They went above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. "There are positives and negatives about this hotel. First, the positives: the staff are friendly and helpful, and some of the amenities are good. For example, there is a good games room, and the pools are quite good (the water is a little dirty though). The buffet in the evening is a good option, the other restaurants not so much. There is a welcome happy hour for cocktails.. There is quite a lot of wildlife around the hotel (monkey’s , various birds, lizards), which is interesting. The negatives: the service in some of the catering facilities is almost ridiculously slow. There is no orange juice at breakfast, and the other available juices are poor. The breakfast in general is not quite up to the standards of some other Shangri-La hotels (although it is not bad). The property overall is slightly run down and the rooms could do with some refurbishment. A coffee machine in the rooms, with fresh milk in the fridge, would be desirable. If you are to visit Hambantota and are travelling from Colombo airport, choose a good and reliable car service, although not the one offered by the hotel, which is priced multiple times higher than other available options. I would recommend a visit to Hambantota and Shangri-La overall, though, if only for the chance of seeing wild elephants walking down the road."

"Our room was on the third floor with an amazing view over Mirrisa beach. The hotel is up a steep slope with quite a few steps and no lift. I loved the hotel design features with interesting lighting and features of older buildings. Breakfast is a la carte but with plenty of fruit, 1 slice toast 1 cake and a choice of hot food eg omelette. The pool is lovely but there are a limited number of beds. It is a 5 minute walk to the beach with plenty of restaurants, bars and sun loungers. Unfortunately there is a building being built right in front of the hotel blocking the sea view for the lower floors and the restaurant. This was quite noisy and drilling did disturb the peace. It's not clear how high this will end up but if you want a sea view from your room choose the highest floor. "

"Sensational stay at this beach front property. Personable and considered hospitality from all staff. Delicious and good value food menu with good seafood options on the beach. The beach itself is a quiet and beautiful stretch on to the ocean with clean sand and warm, swimmable waves. Big and clean rooms and bathrooms. Comfortable bed with firm mattress. We would love to visit again. "

"Great room, only issue is that it's close to the main road so the front (deluxe) rooms are a bit noisy."

"The staff and location were great, but my room had an ant problem in the bathroom and the sheets felt clean but were stained. They gave me a late check out and held my bags for an hour, so that was nice, but unfortunately room 204 did not feel worth the price. The groubds are nice though"
