This should not be 5* property. The welcome was awful, and not at all welcoming for a Shangri-la. We were not even walked to our room! The outside of the property is dated too. The reservation/lobby staff overall were awful, not welcoming at all despite it being a 5* accomodation. The sauna/spa was at an extra cost and the pool staff would only provide towels when asked. The WiFi throughout the hotel is very poor. Around the property, there is nothing and a tuk/car is required. It feels if you are a local, you are well looked after, which is a shame. Ultimately, a very disappointing stay in what we thought was supposed to be an amazing hotel. The food however was very good as were all the restaurant staff, and up to the standard of 5* hotel. Wouldn't come back.

- Initial impressions were good. We were nicely attended by “Mr. Insaf” and given our choice of rooms. He volunteered to offer his number WhatsApp for any requests. Unfortunately, he never picked our calls and never answered our messages (until now). - Rooms are well built, but old and tired. Insects everywhere. Even the table lamps are filled with dead ones that seem to have never been cleaned/removed. TV variety is not bad. Size is good (even with our extra bed). - Golf range is great with good value. - They have two spa options; the Balinese one we tried was super good and relaxing. Highly recommended. - Breakfast buffet was a nightmare. Very cheap variety and presentation (glad we didn’t book the full board!). - Ulpatha Restaurant: Highly recommended. Thank you “Vihanga”. - Duty Manager “Lekmal” was terrible. Very limited space here. Details of incident in another review platform. ** My overall assessment of the hotel: if you find it at the prices of 3-star hotels, go for it. If not, avoid.

Lovely resort with beautiful beach. The rooms were nice and spacious and clean. The staff on the whole were friendly though more staff needed at breakfast to clear used plates, refill glasses and show you to a table and explain the layout of foods.

Overall good experience. Customer service was excellent though check in was bit delayed in one of the rooms we booked. Good spread of delicious food. Just need to mention Chathurya works at the main restaurant was excellent in customer service. This young girl is doing a great job.

After paying premium price if you need to use the SPA or Jacuzzi you need to book 15-30 minutes early and they charge Rs 7000/ per session 15 minutes. Didn’t think it was worth.

Great Holiday at Shangri-La

We had a great stay at the hotel. Though there were a few issues with the room , i.e the safe was not working , the room bell did not work and the bathroom had issues, however the hotel staff was prompt in taking care of these issues. They also upgraded our room category. The staff was very warm and hospitable and took good care of us. We had a great time at the resort. The activities in the resort are quite interesting and the facilities like Gym , Pool etc are exceptional. We will refer this hotel to our friends and family and would love to go there again in the future.

We had to wait for an hour for our room to be ready even though we arrived on time and pre-booked months before. There was no compensation offered either for the inconvenience. The rooms are quite far from the elevators so there was a lot of walking involved just to get anywhere. Apart from that, the hotel was good.

Back to the 90s

It seems that since it first open, no investment has gone into the hotel. Old facilities, very slow service with just a few good service guys trying their best. 70% of them go in circles. It can take an hour to get drinks and pizza. We played golf, tho the caddies try their best, the equipment for rental is incomplete and old. No shop… really poor vision of what this business could do.

Big and nice facility similar to 5-star hotels in Turkey. Food is quite nice. Area around the hotel is also big and nice. There is nowhere to go other than the hotel area and there is really nothing to do if the weather is not good - no leisure is organized for the hotel guests except for 12.00pm aerobics once a day. Prepare for a one-week waiting like to the spa, they only have 2 massage girls and 1 ayurveda specialist for a huge facility. Ocean is not good for swimming. Sunbathing beds/decks are few and occupied by some guests in the morning and abandoned till the come to enjoy the pool around noon time, so prepare to fight for those to get a space by the pool. Staff is friendly but many of them do not understand English very well or may be there is some other reason, but getting things done - should it be a cup of coffee or getting your laundry bag back to the room can take 5 times more times and efforts than you originally planned. Really this hotel is overestimated and except for a fancy facility and good food, it is the most boring place on Earth.
